I Just got done hanging and plumbing my beacon Morris 75k heater.
I have a Honeywell non program digital thermostat 24v. I don't know if I am going to run the heater all the time or shut it off and only turn it on when needed.

My question is does the heater operate like a house unit that if I turn it off at thermostat its off. Or do I need to flip the circuit breaker each time or the on/off switch under the access panel.

Second I have to wire thermostat wire will that be ok if all I want is heat mode. I have two ceiling fans if I want air circulating

Ayuh,.... Most of the T-stats I've seen only go down to 'bout 50°, so below that, the furnace will start,...

We had one on our clean burn - if it got below freezing (the stat that is) it wouldn't start the heater period until it got to above freezing.

I picked up a Honeywell "heat only" non programmable T stat for mine, it was listed on package as "low temp"/ It's still in the Durango, have not unloaded it yet (just got back from menard's with it) It goes down into the 30's for its lowest available setting. I'd like to try and keep my garage at ~40*F when I am not out there and turn it up to around ~55*F when I go out there to work. Hopefully this plus the OSB sheating and insulation work I have done, will alleviate the problem I have had in the past with the kerosene salamander that I used to run out there; shortly after I am done working out there and shut down the heater, (heck kerosene is too expensive to run when needed, let alone constantly) the temp in the garage goes down pretty close to outside ambient temp, next time I go out there anything made of metal is all covered in either frost or sweat epending on outside temp. Look at the column on my Delta/Rockwell drill press, how rusty it has become. (most obvious thing seen when you walk out there) Not good for my tools and such...
it remains to be seen how much my gas bill will jump because of this.

Thanks for the help. I hooked up the thermostat and it works fine. Now we will see how low it will go. I need a digital thermostat for the wife approval.

Actually depends on model/brand. most if not all of the normal Honeywell's I've seen when doing my shopping go down to 40.

I picked up a Honeywell "heat only" non programmable T stat for mine, it was listed on package as "low temp"/ It's still in the Durango, have not unloaded it yet (just got back from menard's with it) It goes down into the 30's for its lowest available setting. Might have wanted to get the programmable. I went back & forth for weeks before buying one. I got the cheapest programmable one (7 day programmable). For the simple fact of I programmed the T-Stat to be at 40 degrees for each of the time periods (Wake, Away, Home, Sleep)...so when I get in there at night I can manually override the temp to 60 or so...and when the time period changes it goes back to the 40 degree setpoint...which is important to me so its "impossible" for me or my wife to forget it at 60.

40 is as low as I want to let the shop get. Saves me from having to lug in all my freezables this year.
