I have a 500 BTU A-1 torpedo heater. It currently runs on propane but I would like to convert it to natural gas. Can anyone tell me how difficult this might be, where I can get the conversion parts, and how much the conversion kit should cost?

Regards,

Larry

i'd call the manufacturer of the unit or look in the owners manual to start. If it can be converted they will know how and may have made a kit to do it.

We had several NG units at work I was asked to convert to propane, after pricing the parts it was more cost effective to just buy new ones. YMMV

Cost wise I don't know what to tell you.

The difference between an LP and a natural gas unit is the size of the orifice in the burners and if the unit has a main valve then there is a different spring inside the valve. This is due to the fact that natural gas requires a lower operating pressure than LP. Usually a heater operating on natural gas uses about 4" to 5" of water column when running and on LP the pressure is around 7" to 9" of water column. This a good rule of thumb and manufacturers will give you specifics for their units.
