Convert bottle jack to single acting cylinder?

I have the ram from an engine hoist sitting on a shelf begging for a project. I am thinking it would work great for a tubing bender, even better if I don't have to pump the handle on the ram 1000 times! I am thinking a fitting tapped into the cylinder should be all I need to make it function as a single acting cylinder. Should be able to operate it with the handle when the pump isn't hooked up.

I realize a pump, relief valve, control valve and hoses will also be needed. I am assuming a reservoir would also be needed.

I am envisioning building a portable pump unit that I can hook to different cylinders. Then tap quick connects into my bottle jacks, the ram, a hydraulic press, etc. This seems like a simple setup to me, almost too easy. What am I missing? Could I tap a quick connect into my floor jack and operate that with a pump?

To clarify, I want to use the ram as a hydraulic cylinder powered off of a pump w/ a control valve. I can foresee use of the hydraulic pump for other cylinders in the future and was thinking it would be more economical to have one pump setup and switch it from cylinder to cylinder.

Anyone have experience or knowledge on doing this?

Essentially a Bottle Jack is a One Way Cylinder, it just so happens the power source is built in. I guess im not following exactly what you want to do...

Based off this..

Your talking some Cash... I personally dont see the Benefit. What are you trying to do away with? You can buy a Air powered Hydraulic Pump, generally they Max out at 10000 psi which is More than what your typical Floor Jack/bottle jack Seals are Rated at but if as long as you dont exceed the Rated tonnage you should stay within the safe range. I believe the benefit of Presses, Tubing benders is better when your talking about Slow Subtle Movements. Im not saying it cant be done.. I only question the Benefit, the Expenses and Possiblility of Truly tearing something up or getting Hurt. I think you would better off using the correct tool for the Job, Which would eliminate some of the pumping etc.. Long Jacks are for Cherry pickers, and generally < 8 ton, Presses are Normally fitted with >12 ton Jacks and the better ones have Adjusting Tables to speed things up.
