Convert from 240 to 265 volts

So I bought a used PTAC off Craigslist and discovered that it was 265v, but my place is 240 (238.2 per my volt meter). Is it possible to use this unit? I got a smokin deal on it, but don't want to smoke it by under powering it.

Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

265V is the rated voltage, 277V is the normal supply voltage, a buck/boost transformer could be used to boost the voltage.

That almost sounds like a 3 phase voltage ?? Can you post a picture of the name plate or the plate that shows the voltages ? Personally, I would be calling the manufacturer and asking them.

It is probably not going to work without a step up to the 277 volt area. Rule of thumb is within 10% of rated voltage, but 238.2 is a little low.

265V is not 3Ø, the PTAC is designed for 277V, which is 1 phase & a neutral from a 480Y/277V supply.

In a 277/480 3Ø feed, you get 277V Ø-Ground and 480V Ø-Ø. So although we typically call it 3Ø you also have the ability to supply a 1Ø load.

Thats what I thought and thats why I said it I thought it was 3 phase. I guess my real point was that you would not find those voltages in a single phase residential system
