Convert Halogen over to LED or replace fixtures?

I have 6 Halogen flood lights on my house and shed and it seems like a bulb burns out almost as soon as I put the ladder away from the previous one burning out:shocking:. Of course I'm exaggerating especially compared to the old incandescent bulbs. I'm happy with the amount of light they put out but I'm getting to the point of seriously considering LED's if they are indeed an upgrade. I don't know realistically how they compare so I'm hoping to be enlightened. Pun intended Lol. So my question is are the led bulbs that are made to replace the halogens bulbs worth it or should I just ditch the current fixtures and go with led fixtures? Or punt ? :headscrat Thanks

I got the same question about fixtures replacing the flat round bulbs the size of cigarettes.

If we're talking about the little quartz tubes that have ceramic contacts on both ends...then replace the whole fixture. There is no good LED replacement for that type of halogen lamp.
Look at the RAB X34 series. They're tiny and they're available in several different sizes and output.

Surely it can't be difficult? 99% fixtures will be on a box, especially outdoors. Cut the power, pull the fixture, rinse, repeat.

I converted some halogen fixtures to LED*, they were good quality fixtures & pleased with the results but the OP probably will be better served just replacing them.

*Used Feit lamps from HD, they were a PITA to install but like the light & less heat.

Yes I have the type of bulb you mentioned.I'll check out the lights you've listed Thanks. What led wattage would be the equivalent to 500w halogen bulb?

The LEDs I've installed, indoors and out, are uniformly brighter than the equivalent tungsten or halogen. I'd estimate 20 - 25% brighter. They are a lot cooler (fixture temp) than Halogen.
