I made a tire bead seater out of one and followed a similar process. ^^^ With the air and water flush. I opened the bleader vent for a full day, and then Unthread the valve and flushed it with the hose. After at least another full day to dry out. I cut a 1 7/8” hole and welded in a 2” black iron ******.... I had no major leaks or issues.

I was going to ask questions about bung welding but then I saw someone mention flipping it upside down and it occurred to me to do that with my spare tank and just weld a wider plate on to the tank handle to use as the new base (on the non vessel parts of the handle), and then I can put something flat on the old base ring and use it as a platform for some other equipment. That way I completely removed from anything that would affect the vessel integrity.

I'm glad I took the time to scan through the posts. I'm not confident enough in my welding ability but my question was going to center around if a bung is actually needed to be welded on or if they can be brazed on. I saw someone do it on Ytube but they were using a fridge compressor to make a silent workbench unit that could be stored in a mobile bench. I'm still curious for the sake of knowledge but now I will just make a brass manifold with an T on the main bung and put the drain valve on the downward side and elbow the tank into my main line.. Thanks Garagers!!!!

My tank was bought new from the store empty several years ago and its never had propane in it. I had it hooked into my old smaller HF compressor but after taking it apart and looking at the inside of the iron pipe I realized there is a lot of potential for rust and corrosion contamination (much less moisture) so I am just going to switch to brass and then after I make my moisture trap I will have a 3/4 to 3/8 union on the top of the T's and then just use a 3/8 flex line on each tank to feed my filter and moisture traps .

Not the best picture but I think you get the gist of what I saw when I took my old manifold off the spare tank and had my holy moly moment...
