I've been thinking about ditching the bottle and running a gas line to my grill. Has anybody done this? I know the pressure after the meter drops to 1/4 psi, is it enough or will my food never get cooked? Anybody done this?

LP needs a different orifice than natural gas .I think the natural gas has a bigger hole less pressure
All I know is if I didn't change my modine to LP jets I would have burned the shop down in no time

do a search on your model. If it's made by a major manufacturer they probably sell a kit with new orifices that will allow the correct amount of gas and may include the correct hose to go to your gas hookup.. I think it's also possible to redrill the orifice but I wouldn't know what size and ya might screw it up. I've seen the kits for Charbroil and other makers as cheap as $30 bucks or so depending on the model.

I have a natural gas grille. Bought it as a natural gas grille, not converted. Would never go back to LP tank. There is a way to convert your LP to natural. Do your research and it will work just fine. Drilling out the orifice is part of it. You may just want to buy a grille that is already natural gas.

+1 on what all before me have said.

BTW IMHO Band of Brothers was way better than The Pacific....although it was very well done too

Ya just need to drill out the orifices about 3x the size. I can't recall the exact size drill I used....Google it.

I researched my model and the conversion kit was $60. It consisted of a few bezels. I just read the destructions and the main change was unscrewing the orifices. I tried it, hooked it up, and watched the temp. It hit 500 F in about 10 minutes. That's more than I need. Thanks for the help.

NG is the ONLY way to grill with gas.....good job on the change-over! (BTW, that is said in a "beats the pants off of running out in the middle of a feed" kind of way....)

I like the mobility of propane, where NG means it stays in one spot all the time.

I just spotted your location joker. We're neighbors. For the problem of tasting lighter fluid, you can buy a charcoal starter canister for around $15.

Just my opinion, but gas or LP is pretty much the same as cooking indoors. You can also buy an indoor range top w/gas that has a "grill" top. You get that Burger King "grilled" flavor. :)

Have you ever attended the Lenexa BBQ cook off?

Gas? LP???? Why not charcoal? Sorry, I'm a perfectionist from Kansas City. :)

Steve

Yeah, I used charcoal for years. Problem was that by the time the coals reached that "perfect" state you were taking the food of the grill. Guess I'm just too impatient to wait that long. With gas, it's ready to cook when you are.

I do most of my grilling in the summer and I'm very CHEAP. I don't like to heat my house with my range and then pay to pump it out with the A/C. The old lady prefers the taste of the grill, I don't care too much as long as it's MEAT! I've been to the Lenexa BBQ a couple of times, but nowadays, if your company isn't cooking or you don't know somebody, you don't get to try any of the food. I stopped going for this reason. Anna starr, I didn't actually buy the kit, I just pulled the orifices, like I said, I'm cheap. Better days, I have an upper deck right next to my kitchen where I keep the grill, I can't imagine a better place to move it.
