Converting a crawlspace into a basement

Just now starting to look into this. Appears to have been done before from what I have seen online. Converting it from 2' to 8'(or more).

Not concerned about digging it out or the floor. Interested in the walls and supports for the house foundation.

Anyone ever done it before or looked into it?

Years ago. We did it by hand. Typically a certain amount of distance from existing to new horizontal is needed to avoid undermining. Normal footings and a filled block wall.
A lot depends on your soil conditions and types.

Its done often where I live. They dig under the foundation and support it with steel I-beams, jack it up, pour footings and typically build block walls. For the house to sit on.

My father was a block layer we did two of them as I remember we used cribs made from basswood 8x8s

Tons of digging. Hope you love moving buckets upon buckets of dirt. Enough that I tossed the idea of a deeper basement into the wind.

In my previous life, my 'across-the-alley' neighbor did it to his house. Small ranch with a crawl space. He dug it out by hand in clay soil, with a conveyor belt going out one crawl space window. I offered to help him, but he wanted to do it himself. He left a couple feet all around his 'foundation' and covered the ledge in concrete, then the floor. Seemed like an awful lot of work for a little space.

I have seen this done several ways.

Lift the house and frame between the old foundation and house.

Dig a hole using a conveyor or bucket to remove the dirt. Lift house and pour.

Lift the house and remove the foundation.

As i type, my house is in the air 10'. New 9' walls are poured. One side was daylighted and a skid steer and mini ex were used to excavate.

The house was free and will be remodeled to the studs once I set it down. At set down I will be at $14 per square foot. Then the money drain begins. I expect to finish below $70 per square foot.

easiest way would be to jack and block the house up, use a small dozer or something to dig. pour footings & walls . let house down
