I have found a used BendPak HD-9 on Craigslist locally that I am interested in purchasing. Based on the posted pictures, it appears that the HD-9 has been converted to the "Narrow Setting" (Dimension "J" on the spec sheet linked below).

My question is, what does it take to convert the HD-9 back to the "Wide Setting"? I imagine that the cables would be a different length, but not sure if anything else would be effected. I have searched this forum and Bendpak's website trying to find out what all is involved in changing the width between the runways. If anyone has done this, any insite would be appreciated.

they were smart. the cables loop around in the fixed side of the platform, and they run down the cross supports to the legs. they dont interact with the second ramp at all.

widening (or narrowing) the lift is conceptionally easy. you undo the 4 bolts holding the ramp in place, and slide it over, and return the 4 bolts to their new places lined up with the other holes. i dont remember if there was a torque number or not for tightening them.

i say conceptionally because that ramp weighs a lot. easily a two person job.

were i to do it, i would remove the bolts, and drop the lift to close to the floor before i tried to move it, you dont want it swaying in the air. i would get some furniture dollies, and some blocks, and try and lower it until it just rests on that, to make it easier to slide over. even with that, i would want two people. extra eyes would be useful . . . .

here is the current version of the assembly manual:

On my HD9 you take out the 4 bolts on the movable platform, that is the one that does NOT have the HYD cly. beneath it, and push the platform to the position that you want, then align the bolts to the holes and tighten them up.
On the rare occasion that I've moved mine I lowered it to about 40" removed the bolts, stood between the platforms and pushed the right platform from the middle. No problem moving it, and I did not feel it was going to fall off the end pieces. I'm 70 and can do it by myself, I'm sure you can as well

My HD12 has one platform that is not bolted that I move all the time, even change the oil in my lawnmower using it, same system, 40" off ground and push form center.
