Converting old halogen light to LED

I picked up this old housing from Restore. I’d like to convert it to LED to be used as an outdoor light next to my conex. I’d like a fairly bright output.

I know the photo is carpy but it’s got a fairly typical long, skinny halogen bulb as shown below.

I’m trying to think of the best way to convert it. Hopefully without tearing it up too much. Wondering if there was a clever way to use the existing contacts.

can i ask why ? and for the most part there throwaway lights .... if going to led you need a good heatsink to keep the leds cool

Aesthetics. I like this old factory looking stuff.

In looking around, I see they may make led direct replacement bulbs.

We replaced the bulbs in some of these fixtures on the outside of our firehouse and on mounted truck lights with drop in LED bulbs. Ordered from Amazon. As far as needing a heat sink, the LED’s run way cooler than those halogen bulbs.

It looks like there are readily available R7 LED bulbs available to replace the halogens. Seems straightforward.

Edit: if you did require the equivalent light output to a 500w halogen I suspect that would be difficult to achieve without proper heat sinking as mentioned above. LED's do in fact require significant heat sinking to perform well in high power applications. If the 100w equivalent bulbs would suffice looks like it would be easy.

They don't generate as much heat but the heat they do generate stays in the fixture and neither the led or the driver can tolerate nearly as much heat as the halogen.

They make LED fixtures that look identical to the 500W halogen fixtures. And they're not terribly expensive.

Identical is a pretty big stretch...

I’m running something like this in my outdoor fixtures which were formerly Halogen. Don’t run them for more than a few minutes at a time, so no problems with heat buildup. Halogens kept burning out between 1st and second usage.

I put in a drop in replacement LED bulb into a work light that had a 500W halogen. It's noticeably not as bright, but certainly much easier to work around. The halogens used to crack up at the ceramic ends.
Second photo is with lights off in the car hole. Certainly a useful amount of light

I have switched over a couple of old halogen work lights to LED, they work but it's a little like taking your old trouble light with a 100 watt bulb and switching it to a 40 watt appliance bulb.

I have a 500W halogen fixture like the OP's on a IV stand, found a LED replacement at HD & quite happy with it.
