In todays global economy I wonder what difference it will make where a tool is manufactured.

Here in BC, Canada the Murray River Coal Mine is 95 % chinese owned and has just received federal government permission to bring in 200 chinese workers who will work at 30% lower wages than local miners. The company plans to bring in another 2000 chinese workers soon after. Perhaps the chinese have figured out "why ship the resources to china for manufacture and then ship the goods back for sale when they can move into a country, manufacture there with their own workforce and then sell the goods locally without having to ship anything other than their own votes or er, I mean citizens (which they have an abundance of)".

Very Sad indeed...well at least there will be a lot of rub and tugs around...lol. I think this has got to stop..and your correct they figured out how to do it with less shipping involved....so where will we be in 30 years or so??

It gives new meaning to and food for thought with the phrase which a lot of Asians seem to like to use when playing video/computer games online:

"I own you!"

Wait, There's more! :dunno:

Meanwhile Canada's Prime Minister Steven Harper has signed the fipa agreement with china which is comparable to the Canada/USA/MEXICO NAFTA agreement in clout. It has had no where near the public debate that NAFTA got and has only recently been made public and is due to ratified into a 31 year law without public debate shortly. With it Chinese investment firms will be able to side step Canadian federal, provincial or municipal legislation in favour of an outside independent tribunal.

"Don't worry, it will be good for Canadians" the federal conservative government says, but why then not open it up for parliamentary debate? One thing it does seem to be doing is removing the obstacle of foreign borders that stand in the way of the global rich while the rest of us get poorer and lose the inherited wealth of our countries resources.

They slowly bring in more, and more, and more, and more workers until they displace the inhabitants.

Just like the old days then...

He really has ruined the country. I can't believe he's still around. It pains me to say it, but I don't see myself ever returning home. I don't think I'd even bother to visit if it weren't for family.

You guys are screwed. :wtf:

Yes and no tools were used! Well I guess a pen was used instead of a screwdriver and guess what the coo of it was?

It is ****** scary, :scared: all this when China's state owned oil company CNOOC's 15 billion take over bid for Canada's Nexen corp, one of Canada's largest oil companies located in the oil sands is in it's final stages of review. I can see the wages coming down and new workers coming in for that operation too. Great for the shareholders but not the population.

You gotta worry when a commie country who doesn't have to worry about paying a living wage to it's people (because they haven't had one in a thousand years anyway), can pocket all that cash profit themselves and use it to keep gobbling up as many publicly traded companies as possible in foreign lands. Then with all their clout, infiltrate the governments and change the laws to allow them to pull the rug right out from under you. I hope one day they will share the wealth with their own citizens but then their model for corruption is even better than ours. I learned when I was a kid in school sometimes you're better off not playing ball with a bully.

Given the option I'd rather be screwed in the sun on a nice Greek beach though :)

That sounds good for Canada and the Canadian worker. I hope they do the same here, we need to bring in a pile of Chinese workers to replace a lot of the workers here. We'll start with all the Chinese product buyers so they can see the benefits of buying cheap Chinese junk.

I don't see anything about the workers being cheaper - and it looks like they are temporary until they train Canadians to do the work. Then you send the temps home.

Am I missing something?

I just hope the Chinese government doesn't make a habit of "selling" its people like this. It's terrible - their government has basically placed a "Made in China" tag on the people, making them cheaper than locals, and placed a "Made in Canada" tag on its **** products.

Does that mean they'll stop hogging at the lounge chairs by the pools at holiday resorts then? :)

"200 chinese workers who will work at 30% lower wages than local miners."

You mean they're actually going to pay 70% of what a local makes?

For them it's a giant step up.... I have trouble believing that....I'd believe they're going to pay the chinese miners 30% of what a local miner makes faster than I'd believe 70%.

And temporary miners only exist in temporary mines.

This sounds bad. Who exactly in the government is negotiating this?

At the risk of derailing the thread, the real reason COO won't mean anything in the future is that 3D printing will mean the market for consumer goods will switch from a manufacturing and distribution industry to an intellectual property industry. Why bother making something cheaply in China out of steel when you can download a cad file and print it off at home in titanium?

:+1: Technology and science are always allies. Such practices(in Canada or other countries) will eventually overcome

We are severly short of labourers here so it is little wonder they are bringing in people. Lots of immigrants in this area doing nearly all the lowering paying jobs. 7-11 pays $18.50 starting wage but no one to work.
We are lucky to have the government we have IMHO. Just look at the gong show going on next door and where that story will end if they don't shrink the gov.

What is the wage and benefits the miners want?
Around here the union has lost its marbles and turned into a day care for the most part.

We're on top, meaning north of, but the reason we are "bigger" is because of our lakes. The U.S. actually has a slightly larger land mass.

Ladies and gentlemen, humour has left the building :lol_hitti

EDIT: What sort of dodgy website have you linked there! "Helping" Canada's provinces join the USA?! Yikes!!!

Maybe if evading taxes wasn't the national pastime in Greece the place would be in better financial shape?
