My 24 x 44 shop has heat and air. Rarely do I use the air. Usually just open some doors. This week it's been in the mid 90's, hot and sticky.
We're taking one car a week and detailing it, (our twice a year detail everything) but it was just to hot to do it in the regular house garage as we usually do.
So, I turned the shop air on when I got home, it was a stiffling 100+ degrees in the garage at 5:00 yesterday. Within an hour it was a nice 80 degrees. By being cool and air conditioned I was also able to get the wife to help with the waxing as well. No way would she have done that in 90+ degree heat.
The garage is insulated in the walls, haven't done the ceiling yet. But I oversized the air handler for just such occasions. (To cool it off quick)
3 tons with 2 returns and 6 supplys in 1000 sq. ft.
So, unless you're running your system like a house, all the time, I'd definitely oversize it. It works well.
Now if I could just get lucky in there. I mentioned the thread here about that to the wife, got the standard rolled eye balls, "Men" response.
