Cool ideas for room above garage

Morning friends,

My wife and I are in the midst of getting estimates on putting up drywall and running a/c in my space above the detached garage. It is already wired up. I just have run out of ideas for where I want everything.

Here is what I know, it will be my Tech Eden, aka Danger room, so Xbox1, 360 PS3, PS4, Alienware laptop, gaming desktops, 65" LCD, blah, blah, blah. I however have...too much space even with a sectional dab in the middle of the floor.

I plan to put a commercial type Air hockey table on one end, but the other end I have left blank. We were initially going to do a bar, but I just can't see running a sink/drain in a room, I want to hang out in and play games and watch movies. Any pics of your setup or suggestions would be appreciated. :)

It sounds like you are planning on spending significant time in the room, I suggest you rethink the addition of plumbing while you have the walls open. You won't regret it.

As far as cool stuff, plenty of directions you could head. Instead of a standard "bar", how about more of a wine locker, liquor storage area? I've got plans to construct an old-fashion soda fountain/ice cream bar. Maybe a couple of vintage vending machines and an stand-up arcade game or mame console?

Here's what I did with the 2nd story of our barn. You would need to see the before pictures (see my signature) to truly appreciate it, but this gives an idea.

While we didn't run plumbing out, we do have a bar that we sit at with friends. Great for snacks/pizza etc. and drinks.

The 9 foot shuffle board table has been a big hit. Anyone, regardless of skill set can play.

The air hockey is similarly appealing to anyone.

Darts has tended to be me vs. anyone else until I beat them too many times. Then they don't want to play anymore.

We have a kid's table where they play board games and do arts and crafts, or eat birthday cake etc.

The loft area is fun for them too. Mostly reading, lego building, or flying various things into the people below.

When you say plumbing are you referring to a bathroom or just a sink and drain for washing out glasses and making drinks/cocktails?
I like the Mame console thing. I recently installed an emulator on my daughter's laptop with all the SNK/Neo-Geo games ever made. I would love to do that with a stand up arcade cabinet running a decent pc with cpu and OS capable of Win XP emulation for game stability and compatibility.
I was going to toss in a cubby for a wine cooler, fridge, microwave combo but it sounds so unimaginative.
The ice cream bar is an interesting addition. Have any pics?

Rieferman, love the look. I have a barn as well, but I plan to keep all my cars in there...no family members...lol.

Fire pole going down to the garage. Make a cover of some type for it and it can double as a stripper pole

I have subscribed to this thread so that i can see the pictures and follow along..... Many of us use "photobucket" to hold our photos and post them on here. I find photobucket better than than attaching pics to the thread because the show up larger... Be sure to post pics of the Buick Skylark!!!

I would definitely look into doing something a bit more elaborate if you're spending that much time up there. I would start by visiting floor plan websites (just search floor plans or house plans). You'll be presented with thousands of house plans but you can narrow by size. User your sq ft as a go-by for your search. The search may provide some pretty cool layouts for small areas.
