So I've been trying to get the hinges unstuck on the Huot machinist box I got on the pick that was supposed to be epic........but was, well, not so much. I decided to take a propane torch to the hinge after trying everything from brake fluid, to evaporust, to PB. Good thing I looked behind the door before applying heat! These are pretty cool! Original inspection ticket from the box, and some '60's calendar pages.......oh, and the heat didn't work either.

Great find!

What is the size of those, would you be able to get a picture frame to put them in?

Sorry guys but I have to disagree, I don't find those calendars cool at all. They're friggin HOT! Nice find! A nice thing about calendars is they repeat every 10 or so years so you can use em again when the dates line up with the days. It seems you can't get away with girlie calendars much these days but I bet you can get away with those. They have more than just *** appeal, they speak about an era. Hot, real HOT!

Love those calendars! I have a couple of small ones framed up as well. Well worth hanging onto. If you decide to part with them though......Lemme know! ;)

Haven't heard of that. What does wax do?

It'll wick in. I've used that trick before years ago, I think the last time I used it was to pull some manifold studs out of a 70's WCVW exhaust manifold. Works kind of like a solid penetrating oil, but the wax gives more lube once the fastener breaks free (or hinge/pin in this case)

I've also had success in the past with this candle technique on some really bound up / rusty parts. Don't understand why it seems to work better than penetrating oil, but it does often work. Won't guarantee your success, but it is definitely worth a try.

Regarding the photos, perhaps you could put the calendars in a collage frame. They are really cool relics! Quite a bit different that the typical in-your-face T&A pics of our current era.

.

I think its because when you heat a part and then apply penetrating oil, most if, not all of it flashes off and evaporates away from where you need it.

If you dont apply heat, the fasteners bond is just too tight for the penetrating lube to work its way in, at least in a time frame most of us are willing to wait.

Heat makes the gaps bigger so the wax can work its way in.

Be warned though, I have had parts hot enough that the wax has ignited.

No issue with a little fire, it's currently sitting outside because it was apparently the local hangout for every stinkbug within 100 miles.
