At work we're cleaning out some of the old barns...
Came across this beast...
Headbadge says Silver Mfg Co, Salem Ohio

Anyone know anything about these? (other than it's pretty dang heavy)

Wow that is cool - more pics including the motor and head would be nice.
Also - that Farmall in the background is AMAZING too!

I think I want to work there too. If you have old tools like this and red tractors in the lot. Can you share more of this wonderful looking place?

As for the drill press, its commonly known as a camel back drill press. Near the turn of the last century there were lots of tool manufactures making these type of drill presses.

It really is a cool place to work - Alameda County Fairgrounds.
We have 3 recently restored tractors that we'll be driving in the St Patricks Day parade this coming weekend.
The FarmAll is a 1949 Cub, the Massey Harris is a 1946 Model 101, and the JD is a 1952 Model 40

Thanks for the link. So that is where the Silver and Deming reduced shank drill bits get their name. I wonder if it was from the first or second time the two names were one company. It is generic term now.

RZims,
That is stout and cool ! Is there a chance you will get to refurbish it ? There is a lighter duty version of this type of DP on CL (east bay, maybe Lafayette Orinda ??) that's in fantastic shape. ...I believe they want $50 for it.

Thanks for the tractor photos...very nice...Have a good parade!

Thanks Shawn,
No, no chance to refurb...we're cleaning out a couple of the buildings and this is one of the pieces that will be gotten rid of.
We'll probably reach out to a couple of the local historical groups or it will end up on craigslist...
