Cool Old Non-Adze Eye Forged Claw Hammer

I rarely buy claw hammers but this one called to me. It has no makers mark I can see and looks to be about a 16 ounce size. I think it is pretty early as factory made adze eye hammers came to dominate the market following David Maydoles 1840 "invention" of the adze hammer. It is a forged head with nice fullering and gracefully drawn out claws. The handle appears to have been shortened and will need replacing.

Good idea. I discovered some of those left behind after a building project, and wondered what I could use them for..!
