about 13 years ago when I was 12 when I started doing more things on cars and oil changes being one of them. I had the same idea for a product. 4 years after I saw some ****** looking fram product like this at Crappy Tire. Needless to say i was a little pissed.

Cutting to the chase, I'm now getting one of the fumoto's for my next vehicle (currently in transition from car to f150)

What a mess.

I had read this thread before and should have remembered it the other day, when I changed oil.

In defense, it's a new lift and I've always just slid the oil pan underneath a car on jack stands. I'll use a pneumatic rolling stool and Brentocool's suggestion next time.

Fumoto valve FTW! I've had one on every car I've owned since 2002. I've never found the need for the ******, but can see how it would be good for certain situations.

Can't beat the fumoto valves. Just slap a hose on it, turn the valve and drain it into a five gallon bucket with a pour-lid. Easy to empty when it is full..

we use uniqe quick drains at work on all our kw's, bulk equip and pumping equip work great pull off the cap and screw on the hose no lever to move. it has a internal valve with a spring when you put the hose on it pushes the valve off the seat and the spring returns it using them for years.

Now the anti-splash for the antifreeze is a stellar thought. That stuff splashes everywhere and I so hate it too. At least brake fluid you can wash off.........

One more tip.

My dad use to let many change their oil in is shop, since he had a hoist.

So he took a 5 gal. bucket with a lid. Hole saw like ten holes big enough for the oil bottles. Well, after the oil was put into the car/truck, he would take the oil bottle and put it in the holes. The remaining "teaspoon" of oil would then drain in the bucket. The next day hewould then throw the bottle away.

I thought he was crazy
...... untill I saw a 1/2 gallon of new oil he use for his tractors.

Now thats what I'm talking about!!!!! How did this thread turn into some Fast Valve deal? Personaly I wouldnt put one on my car!!! Theres to many things that could happen. Moving parts on my oil pan scare me. And they hang out all over the place and could get snapped off by ??? No Thanks!!

OK, I haven't read this thread since I posted way back a few months ago. I remember those quick drain valves, Kmart used to sell them when I worked there (NO, I'm not insinuating that they are cheap, just that Kmart was a authorized sales point back when they first came out) . I used to have a bunch in my tool box, but I tossed them years ago. I never liked the idea of a quick release of all my oil unless I pulled the plug myself, now in hindsight I think they might be a good idea (old age I guess). Of course this occurred to me AFTER I threw this things away, but they wouldn't fit my current car anyway. I also noticed that they aren't any cheaper than they used to be (adjusted for inflation). Oh well, it's all academic now as I can't change my own oil anymore due to medical problems.

That's neat idea. I use a piece of expanded metal (grate) cut to the opening to keep the nut from falling into the bottomless pit of oil.

I have since put a fumoto valve on the pan of my 7.3 250, which is basically a bal valve that you can turn on and off, which comes in handy because I can now just keep the 4 jugs from the previous oil change and drain into those, then keep the new oil ones for the next change. Totally worth the investment. I got sick of fishing around in 18 qts of oil for the plug when you accidentally drop it.

I've seen enough oil pans from people using dip[ stick oil changers and this fumoto gimmick to know nothing beats warming up the car and then just pulling the plug, this valve leave all the settled junk down ion the bottom of a pan. No thanks. I'll just keep pulling the plug, far as making a mess? you must be doing it wrong. oil filter is usually the biggest mess maker so it really doesn't matter about the drain plug making a mess.

Not all cars drain the same! Some are much faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to see you pull the plug on a red hot Toyota Tundra, 8qts coming out the side of the oil pan!! And then you can tell me I'm doing something wrong!! I'm not talking about changing my own oil at my leasure!! I do this for a living and I know what I'm talking about
