FYI, I'm not sure about the price. I just thought it was an interesting set. I have never see anything like it.

Craftsman Industrial has a couple sets in cases like that. I think they're military spec. They retail for around that price, and I wouldn't pay it. You can get some great deals on Cman tools.

I am not the one who posted this on CL. I just look at the tools all the time and this post caught my eye. I know sometimes peopel on GJ like to post cool finds so that is all I am trying to do. I would never spend that much on tools (I'm poor).

Love the case, not real practical but its still pretty cool. I've always wanted one of those slide out trays for the bed of your truck and those trays would be perfect for that.

Ya, but for what the guys asking you could buy a nice used truck and a descent craftsman tool set...

For what they want for the steel weatherproof drawers that can handle an atv on top you could buy another truck.

They look like military service kits.

They aren't truly "rare", there just aren't that many that walk off base as complete kits.

A major part of the value in the kits is the consistent size of the case, and the consistent impact rating. Everything that a unit packs can survive the same handling -- you don't get to mark some boxes "fragile". You don't get that value when you buy just one or two.

Those tools came off a base. Might have gotten "lost" on the way home from deployment, but Im not making accusations. But they most certainly are mil.serv.eqp.

I've seen similar polybox toolsets with Armstrong tools that were $1,200 to $1,400 which were half price of $2,500 retail for military as well.

Looks like CL seller thinks this "rare" box of tools is worth $2,500 retail when it's used (ie not bought new from manufacturer) - - ie as if military was buying it at trumped up price. Realistic price is somewhere around $1,000 or so.

The case appears to be made by Pelican given the construction. Pelican does make tool boxes for the Military. Most are impact resistant, watertight, and fairly sturdy. They also make cases in a number of other sizes and proportions for other applications. The company can make custom trays to hod your equipment. Depending on size that box would probably cost at most $400 and could possibly be acquired for closer to $200 if it's a size available from an online place like Amazon. Somebody else would probably be better at estimating the value of the tools. Pelican actually makes a much better tool case that's a bit more expensive, model #0450. This is the link to the Pelican Website. http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=0450 and a video about it
. If you need custom inserts there are places that can make them for you.

It's definitely a pelican case. If you were to purchase all those tools from Sears the price would probably be pretty close to what he's asking. I was just in Sears today and the 3/4 drive set alone is $279. Figure up all the rest of the sets and your right there at it with the box. It is a neat set but I couldn't justify it. A traditional box meets my needs much better.
