I have built a new garage and I am getting ready to run air lines. I have used iron pipe in my other garage but I want to try cooper. I have searched the forum for the right solder to use. Some have used refrigeration solder containing silver. I was in Lowes and looked at thier solder. They had a solder that held 6950 psi. Would this work just as well?

I've heard mixed opinions, but I think "regular" solder would work just fine. I used "silver solder" from Lowes to be on the safe side. Took a little more heat (and more time) to get the pipe hot enough, but it worked fine. Just make sure you clean the connections thoroughly and flux them well. Good luck!

Mike,

I just used the recommended solder that Quincy has in their manual. They prefer iron pipe or "L" copper pipes soldered with silver solder and not lead/tin solder.

You will have no problems with your typical silver bearing plumbing solder. It is sold as lead free solder ususally a mix of tin, antimony and silver.
