I am looking for a reliable source for pure copper wire. Primarily for automotive use. Probably 16 gauge or so. I will take reliable over cheap every day of the week so Amazon and Ebay are out for me.

IMHO, the amount of wire I want would influence where I bought it. For only a few feet I would go to a local Custom Automotive Electrical Shop.
For big jobs I would try an industrial warehouse.

Go ask any electrician that does control wiring. Ask for left over spools of MTW. They will probably sell them for slightly more than scrap price. They will have spools varying from a few feet to 50'+ that are too short for them to use.

MTW is finely stranded and has fairly thick insulation. It's excellent for automotive wiring.

MTW is good. TEW is even better, as that's MTW's tinned cousin.
