Cord for electric heater

I bought a 5000 watt comfort zone heater the instructions say hard wire but I have a 10-30 nema plug I would like to use could I use a 10 gauge drier cord and wire it so I can plug it in or will this cause a problem

It's 10 gauge and that's what they call for, so as long as it's wired properly I don't see the issue. I almost went this way myself.

Technically a 10-30P is an ungrounded 125/250V plug. The correct plug and outlet to use is a 6-30P and 6-30R. Bottom line is I suggest to wire it as the instructions say to. If using cord I'd use soow or sjoow cord.

So can't use the 30 amp plug and cord or is it just a technical differance or will it harm the heater

Usually a plug and receptacle is more expensive anyway. Is there a reason you're leaning in this direction?

I will totally use a whip if it will work better however I would like the ability to easily remove the heater and does using an outlet matter just in general

OK I see I was looking at the rating on the them and I guess I wired it wrong anyway I used the bare ground wire where the white neutral wire and connected it to the ground bar... Also I have read else where that if I don't hard wire the unit it will no longer be UL and not code compliment
