Hello,

I'm looking for a corded angle grinder with kickback control. Bosch offers these in their overseas market, but I can't seem to find anything locally on their 4.5" /5" angle grinders. What would be my next best option, or does Bosch offer this locally in North America and I'm just not seeing it? I have safety concerns when it know about. Please let me know :) Many thanks!

EDIT: I am looking for 120V only (...I am aware the 20V DeWalt has this feature as well, but I need 120v)

I have a corded Makita variable speed in 4 and 1/2.I'm not sure of the wording they use to describe this feature. It and the v.s. are a big part of the safety of this tool.By the way, very happy with Makita.

Usually I think the anti-kickback feature is referred to using terms like Safety-Clutch.

Dewalt offers some angle grinders with an “E-clutch”

Metabo uses the term “S-Automatic Safety Clutch”

Makita is a great brand. Can you please share the model number so I can read up on it a little more?

Many thanks,

Thank you! Those terms are actually what I needed. Just typing in "kickback control" or "kickback brake" will not suffice as each manufacturer has their own term for it. Thanks again! :)

I thought their were Metabo pro models with this feature.
I thought ALL Metabo models had a clutch of some sort. Mine is a slip clutch, and it works well for the purpose. However, you need to manually turn off the grinder before freeing up the bind.

I prefer the electronic clutch on my Fein grinders, because it stops dead, and will not restart until you turn it off and on again. I believe that some Milwaukee grinders offer an electronic clutch as well.

Makita calls theirs,Super Joint System.Model number is
9564CV.It is 13a.Variable speed is 2800-10,500 rpm.I had never realized how handy the v.s. was till I bought a carburundum wheel to do sidewalks. The wheel had a max.speed.A grinder usually runs much faster.Grinders can be unforgiving, this is what works for me.

I don’t mean to sound harsh or anything, but…

kick back control is for people who are not using the correct portion of the cutting disk, sander, wire wheel, etc given the direction of rotation and operator holding position.

if you use it correctly, it can not kick back because it will always be slightly pulling away from you. If the grinder pushes into you, your doing it wrong.

Again, I don’t mean to sound harsh, but that’s the truth.

You can buy Bosch from Amazon in Germany (I have done so in the past) - but I think the real problem your going to have, is most of these are going to be 240v. (pretty much the European standard). You can always try searching around though

Example $214 plus $40 shipping

Here is a good example why the Bosch 'Kickback Stop' would come in handy (cutting wheel gets pinched)

To me getting pinched, as long as you were contacting the cutting disk on the correct side, has never been nearly as dramatic as that video of the “competitor”, even with my big air powered one. It just pulls away from you. Startling, yes, but with a deadman, not really a danger. Just an annoyance.

What is scary is if you use the wheel out of the correct position, and the grinder pushes back at you. That’s how fingers get eaten.

with the correct technique, people have been safely grinding and cutting for decades. To me, this makes a grinder more expensive, not any better.

People have been getting injured by grinders for decades too, using them "safely" and "correctly". When a disc gets pinched or grabbed, gnarly things can happen. Sometimes it'll even just tear the disc apart and send pieces flying. The kick-back clutch prevents that. Is it an absolutely critical feature to have? Probably not, but it does add value.

As said, Metabo has that feature, at least on the German variable speed models. It's not just a personal safety thing, it helps to keep you from burning up motors.

The Hitachi now HPT corded brushless model has this feature. It is a excellent grinder.

As mentioned, Metabo and Makita both offer this as well as Fein.

Many of the new battery op models do too.
