Cordless Blower - It's a tool

I have a 3 car garage and I have leaves that invade it. Normally I drag around a 75' air compressor hose with a blow gun to clean it out.

I'd like to buy a "cordless" blower that can be used to quickly accomplish this task with no tethers attached.

I don't want to break the bank but I want one I won't regret buying?

Any suggestions?

Re: Cordless Blower

I have an assortment of the Ryobi battery tools and just picked up the small blower for $49. For the short time I need it to blow out the garage, it works great. It also works great on the patio. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-1...ERCH=REC-_-rv_nav_plp_rr-_-NA-_-301289973-_-N
If you have any brand of cordless tools, more than likely they make one or more different blowers and you already have the battery pack and charger.

What cordless battery platform are you currently in? Maybe buy that brand blower. Though it wouldn't be too horrible to buy a different brand, as that would thus give you a charger/battery for another brand. So you can buy bare tools in that lineup.

I hear the Makita blowers are great.

I just bought a used Toro corded one last week for $20. I have a long extension cord, so I can use it in the yard for the leaves. Though a cordless or gas one would be more convenient. I'll probably pick a cordless or gas one up soon.

What cordless power tool system do you have?

I like Dewalt's 20V Max model. It's compact and easy to wield, but can still do the job.

If you have a drill or any other cordless tool, buy one that uses the same batteries.

The only thing that kills the practicality of this stuff is a proprietary battery they'll quit making in a year. The Milwaukee unit is likely fine, and I'll probably get one, but if you don't have a battery it'll cost you.

Same goes for any other brand. Acme Tools usually has some way to get a bonus battery, though, and the leaf blower tends to pop up as a free bonus when you buy something else.

Just get one from a tool brand. Avoid store brands. I'd back off of Black and Decker, as well. They're good, but they have a nasty habit of redesigning everything constantly; tending to cause tools to become obsolete once the batteries eventually **** out.

Normal tool brands, such as Makita, Milwaukee and the like usually have one for about a hundred bucks without a battery. It's pretty much a no-brainer to go for one of those.

Make sure you get one you can control the speed with. I have the Makita X2 and I can control the speed with both a dial and the trigger. With both on full speed it makes a spectacular mess in my garage.

I'm not sure if all cordless blowers have this feature or not so I thought I'd mention it.

It would be overkill for just sweeping out a garage so I'm not recommending the Makita necessarily. It's on the expensive side.

Like others, I suggest looking at a bare tool to go with your current battery system or any battery system you might be considering.

Dewalt had some very good deals on one of their blowers last summer.

Staying with the platform I have (Makita) is preferred and seems to be the consensus.

I would not be opposed to having another brand if the run time and MPH are significantly higher...

Thanks for the replies...

Why do you want cordless if the work is in close vicinity of the garage? (and 120VAC)

With cordless, you're likely going to have uncharged/dead batteries, unobtainium batteries, expensive replacement batteries, etc.

Just use 120VAC AC and it'll always be ready when you need it. (no muss no fuss).

Now if you're blowing a large area then that's a different story.

These get great reviews, are very powerful and much cheaper then battery or gas units.

Stick with Makita since you already have it. We use Dewalt and I got their 20v cordless blower for jobsite cleanup. It is the best thing since sliced bread! It gets used daily on the jobs and saves us a bunch of time. You'll love it around the house, just get a good one.

I went with Makita because of all the different tools they have available.

I actually have two Makita Blowers. I bought the little one first and then later bought the 36v version - primarily because it came with (4) 5.0 batteries which basically covered the cost that I paid. I probably use the 36v the most, but it is nice to have both

The longer 'floor nozzle' can be purchased separately for the little blower

Ego, I tried a lot before I bought, use it weekly, used to use gas one twice a year, I use it around the house so much I would be lost without it

This. If you have Dewalt tools, get the Dewalt. If Milwaukee, Makita, then get one of those.

Here is what I use. It’s cordless but maybe not in the direction of the OP. Works great!

I have the small single battery Makita blower. I initially bought it with a Makita weedwacker for lawn duty, but its pretty small and isn't that useful for lawn duty.

However, I LOVE having it handy in the shop to blow off dust and sawdust. Perfect for that use. Its smaller than you would think, not much bigger than a hairdrier with a rubber hose piece on it.

The 36V version is the one to get for doing your lawn, I think the 18v one is perfect for cleaning shop. Super handy to use and great runtime, they advertise 12 minutes of runtime on a 3AH battery. The battery lasts me several days of doing woodworking and cleanup in the shop.

Edit again, deleted everything else I posted. I think this is the best answer for what you described. Not a lot of money, not small enough you'd regret buying cause of poor performance, and not a big full sized blower cause you DONT need that for what you described. This looks like an awesome little machine with mid grade power and cheap batteries IF you ever wanted to buy extras, or buy another Ryobi tool. Great option for you IMO.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or lastly, Ryobi's newer 18v jet fan design. Little bigger, more cfm (280), charger and one 4.0 battery over the ******** 1.3 amp hour packs that come with the cheapest options. $119 for all, I think this is a great buy on a great mid grade blower.

Yea man, check out a demo vid.. I gotta feeling you ur gonna like this one.. still small, but powerful enough to not feel like you compromised. It even looks and sounds cool.

Just FYI - Home Depot has a 2 pack of that same battery on sale for $79 right now. And they also have an in store only, promo kit that comes with. 1/2" cordless impact wrench, charger, and another 4.0 battery for $99.. just a though..

And here.. good comparison vid with the Ryobi 18v jetfan / Ryobi 40v jetfan / Echo 56v jetfan blowers.. keep in mind he's not blowing leaves around..

I picked up the Ryobi 40v in this video last year on a black friday home depot $99 deal, I got it as a gift for one of my kids but it worked so well I never gifted it, lol, (And I have two gas blowers too, but I love the 40v ryobi) YMMV

^^He’s actually not showing the Ryobi 40V “jet fan” unit (their marketing terminology). He’s showing the previous gen but I believe it’s still available

The 58V Echo he shows is now discontinued for a revised design that looks very similar to the Milwaukee 2728. But the Echo he shows kicks *** IME

edit: no way I’d recommend jumping into Echo 58V just to blow out the garage. And really no way I’d recommend Echo 58V at all, the string trimmer and hedge trimmer work no better than the Milwaukee Fuel stuff

I think Makita makes four different cordless blowers, including one they call a "floor blower".

https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/DUB183Z

Yep, and their compact looks very similar to Milwaukee’s 0884 (not saying they’re identical). I did not see that the Makita lists attachments but the Milwaukee comes w some for inflating air mattresses, etc. Actually really handy if you ever inflate air mattresses for guests (we do)

I think it would be sufficient for blowing off a garage floor (I’ve only used the Milwaukee 0884)

Acme has a deal on the blower Ign linked to but with battery and charger.

It's part of their $25 off Makita purchase which would put the price with 5.0 battery and charger plus canvas bag at $205 which would still qualify for free shipping. At least that's the way I understand it.

http://www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/makita-dub182t1#description

I believe this is the same blower as the floor sweeper but you have to order the attachment a previous poster linked to.

I don't need any more batteries or chargers so the $99 bare tool is tempting.

I like Dewalt's 20V Max model. It's compact and easy to wield, but can still do the job.

I also have the Dewalt 20V Max XR and it's very good. I got the blower / trimmer deal with one 4AH battery for $200 a while back.

I picked up the DeWalt XR 20v Blower over the summer when it was $79 and came with a bonus battery pack. Love it, blows the leaves out of the garage, sawdust off the SCMS, etc. It has a variable speed trigger, a trigger lock, and a VS dial. I got it because I was already into the DeWalt platform. With a tool like this, ya just get what's in your platform or go corded. Were I a professional landscaper looking to go cordless, THEN I'd consider what was "best" from a performance standpoint and maybe add a battery platform if justified. But for a light duty blower? Not worth the overhead (and temptation) of another platform.

Had one and sent it back, works good but not stellar imho. Milwaukee Weed-eater and hedge trimmer are excellent.

This. The Fuel blower is so-so. It’d be more than enough for a garage floor however.

I will say however that between the Fuel (2728), 40V Ryobi “jet”, and Gen 1 Echo 58V the Fuel is far & away the lightest of the three. It feels extremely agile as a result. I prefer it for blowing bark and firewood dust out of my truck bed after hauling wood.

edit: the Fuel is so light ‘cause they basically threw a computer cooling fan in it and just spin the s**t out of it (yes, over-simplification)
