I need input on a good cordless drill for drilling through A/C ducts. This will be done on a daily basis. about 20 holes, 1/4 and 3/8 holes. i was looking at the newer milwaukees but i'm on a tight budget. How do the HF's drills hold up to daily use?

my step son came home with a HF 18v, Im laughing while Im typing this, uhhh dont bother, its not even worth the explanation, buy something used before you do that. Thats coming from a guy who owns bosch and milwaukee everything. If it was 1977 and they where selling that thing, it would be ok, otherwise, Id go used.

I like the Bosch drill and purchased one because it was so comfortable as it has the same body as the best cordless drills going..the Panasonics. However I returned the drill within two days becuase it didn't have enough torque. But I agree, they are very nice drills.

Since then I have purchased the Makita drills which are almost as comfortable and have quite a bit more torque. However the OP said that he was on a short budget so that kind of leaves out name brand stuff unless he can.. as one poster has suggested find a good used drill.

These are very nice for the money. Two batteries and will drive deck srews all day long so drilling wouldn't be a problem. this set is 99 dollars and if you could swing another 30 dollars you can get this set with the Circular saw, recip saw and flashlight. There are many other tools you can buy for this set. I bought it as just a set for my workbench and ended up using it all the time. Ive used it almost everyday for a year and not a single issue. I paid 129 for the set with Drill/driver, recip saw, circular saw, flashlight and have added the grinder, impact and jigsaw since then. Batteries last a long time and quick charge time. Way better tools than I expected.

You really can't go wrong with that Milwaukee. I got the M12 drill, driver, sawzall and copper cutter for my truck and I haven't been let down yet. Sears has the drill alone on sale for $89. I have been getting the higher capacity batteries of late and they last a long time.

I have used the porter cable tools, seem pretty decent. They got good reviews from a couple of magazines I was looking at. They are cheap, plus if they did not work like you expect, I would imagine Lowes will take them back. My 2cents

I have ordered a bunch of reconditioned power tools from CPO and have been very happy. The reconditioned prices have always been lower than anything I found.

about 75% of my milwaukee cordless tools are refurbs.

they work as new, and i saved probably 40-50% on them.

i would always go with a refurb, it is also warrantied as if it were new.

so im happy with that, the only thing, is, it will have a date code to let you know when it was refurbished, and some scuff marks.

other than that, good as new.

Always liked the Makita 9.6 because the thin battery/handle profile would fit between ducts. Most higher voltage drills have the bulging battery pack at the end of the handle.
I have a used 9.6er I don't use much anymore - will sell it to ya cheap.
