Monte this summer if I sent you the money could you get me a 18 volt Swiss made drill?

You can get the 18v Hilti or some Bosch which I believe is made in Switzerland. or is it Germany? I have several of their tools now, jigsaws, drills, etc. All made in Germany, Lichtenstein, Germany, Switzerland. Batteries from Poland. I think the charger too, but I have to check. One Hilti drill I have is either Swiss or German, I don't remember which now.

I have a hard time believing the sweeping statement of "all."
There is a market for the high-end and I'm willing to bet it stays in Europe.

Here all Bosch tools that are made in Europe are on clearance and the new inventory coming in is Chinese or Malaysian. The only thing that hasn't been outsourced is jigsaw and recip blades.

Here meaning W.Va.? Again, hard time believing that all Bosch is going to be made overseas. Maybe the stuff you buy at HD but "all"?

There are still a lot of manufacturers located here who also produces here, not the cheapest tools though. 40% of the worlds production of electric tools takes place around the city of Stuttgart/Germany (Bosch, Metabo, Festool, Mafell, Fein etc.)

German manufacturers: www.mafell.com www.duss.de www.ee-eibenstock.de www.baier-tools.com www.flex-tools.com www.metabo.de www.bosch-pt.de www.fein.de www.suhner-abrasive-expert.com www.kress-elektrik.com www.dracotools.com www.scheer-elektrohandwerkzeuge.de www.festool.de

Hilti also has a plant here and a R+D facility.

Also "made in...." on a tool not always mean that everything is from there, Bosch for example says that they make all motors in-house in germany and ships them to their worldwide production locations.

Additionally most manufacturers also offer OEM and ODM services so you`ll find electric tools from Bosch,Metabo and Fein for example also sold under different brands like "BTI" (jigsaw from Bosch e.g.), "Würth" (4,5" and 5" angle grinder from Bosch , the 7" + 9" grinder from Fein) "Spit/(Paslode)"(from Bosch ), "Berner" (e.g. sander from Bosch), this "Makita" mixer (made by Eibenstock), "Makita" core drill (made by Eibenstock),
even Dewalt buys from a german competitor like this tool and this and 4 of these (orignal manufacturer makes them in green and starts with a "M"... like in "METAllBOhrdreher" :) )

Also complete machines or motors from Bosch etc. are used for special tools like this tool from "Bepo" (with Bosch angle grinder motor), like the "Dräco" metal nibblers and shears (with Fein, AEG and Suhner motors), "Trumpf" nibblers and shears (with Metabo, Fein and Bosch motors), "Nitto Kohki" from JAPAN (with Bosch motor) and www.lamello.com (with "Suhner" and "Protool" motors), these "Makra" beveling/deburring stationary tools (with "Suhner" motors). Edge beveler from "MFK" (with Flex motor) , "Orbitalum" (also "Weldcraft") tig electrode grinder (with suhner motor), "Roller" pipe cutter and the identical "Rems" pipe cutter (both with "Suhner" motor), "Rotox" special tools for the window industry (with Suhner motor), "Ruwi" wood milling machines (with Suhner motor), "Wolff" carpet stripper (with Flex motor), "Teppich Teufel" "carpet devil" carpet strippers (again with Flex motor), "Schlebach" bending machine (with Metabo motor), "Strima" window tools (w. Suhner and Metabo motors), special saw from http://mst-instrumente.com (with Suhner motor), "Assfalg" chamfer/bevel/deburring tools (Flex motor), "Novartec" pipe cutter (w. Fein motor)

There are dozens and dozens more examples.... (but I`m too lazy to post more..:)...)

The Bosch jigsaw blades (and most blades of the world - just look at the "swiss made") as well as other "accessories" and electric tools are made in the Bosch/Scintilla factories in Solothurn and St. Niklaus switzerland (1200 employees) www.scintilla.ch

Vinko,

Hilti cordless drills are China.

Source? I have two that aren't. Just bought another one.

If you have some sort of insight into Hilti's operations, I'd love to hear it.

Else, I'll take it as more "Internet Authority". No offense.

Andreas (sp?) at Hilti 866-445-8827 just told me less than 2 minutes ago. In addition, a few months ago when I first started researching cordless drills I was told the same thing. I haven't looked at them in the store nor did I ask when they started mfg them in China.

unfortunately hes right,

Hilti has begun selling cordless at home depot, and all the ones ive seen there are china.

However its been a while since ive been in a hilti store so i have no idea if the china ones are home depot specials made to a price point, or a reflection of hilti's intent to cheapen their manufacturing,

I hope hilti doesnt slip into the china trap like the others

I received the Metabo BS18 LTX yesterday via UPS. The charger & batteries are made in China (PRC). They will be returned tomorrow. Festool T15+3 is next option.

Servus,

I don't know where the current Festool batteries and chargers are produced but personally, I wouldn't care too much about that. First, the drill itself is made in Germany, as far as I know. Second, Festool drills are simply outstanding from my experiences. I use a Makita 14.4 V LXT, a Bosch 10.8 V impact driver and a more than 7 year old Festool CDD 12 FX (the predecessor of the Festool C12). If I could keep only one of them the Festool would be my choice, there's no doubt. Festool was/is able to produce exceptionally compact and rather lightweight cordless drill even with "classic" technology (NiCd batteries, conventional motors). The new Festool models with their brushless EC motors, the LI batteries and the various electronic features (such as the electronic clutch) are even better in my opinion. And - most important to me - thanks to the right angle and the eccentric attachment the versatility of the Festool cordless drills can't be beat. Of course, I don't use the attachments daily but sometimes, I'm very glad I have them.

I picked up the Bosch 18v impact & drill set, Drill made in Switzerland, Impact and batteries Malaysia. Charger China.

Found a coupon at HD that gives me another free lithium ion battery.

So far I am very impressed with it. Every other tool I looked at was made in China. That was how I ended up with the Bosch. So up here at least, we still have the Swiss Bosch tools.
