just get the Makita BDF452 with the 3 AH batteries then, or get the Panasonic with 3 AH or with 3.3 AH

Went to Sears on Friday to get one of their $39.99 19.2 doorbuster drills that the ad said they only had 24 per store. There were alot more than 24. It is a single speed drill with 125 ft of torque and 0-650 rpm. 1 hour charger. Then I went to Home Depot and got one of their Ryboi 18 volt drills for 39.88. This drill is a 2 speed with 330 ft of torque and 0-350 and 0-1300 rpm. The charger is the one that just slips over the battery. Now I have to decide which one to keep. I think it will be the Ryobi because of the torque rating. What do you guys think?

My experience with Sears batteries was pretty poor. For my work, its nice to have a higher top RPM, too. The only Ryobi I have is a weed whip, but its given good service for such a cheap tool. I'd keep the Ryobi, even though it and the C-man came from the same factory. 19.2 is nothing more than a sales gimmick.

My $0.03, YMMV.

Are these a daily use item or a home hobbyist?

I take back what I said, some quick research shows the 1.5a/h batteries die in just a few months of use...

I cant find anywhere that confirms a kit around that price comes with the better 3a/h batteries. Sorry mate.

I've had my Makita twins for about a year and half i think ... still on the original 1.5ah batteries. I use them daily at work, and bring them home on the weekends for work here. Just used them to do drywall in fact. Batteries still hold a good charge. Only trick i have learned is to "overcharge" them by leaving them on the charger after it said that they were done. I don't do it all the time, but once and a while. Generally they only need charged twice a week. Unless i am doing a lot of drilling through stainless steel, then that can become more. My only regret is that i can't afford a second set for home yet. I hate dragging them back and forth.

I was thinking about getting a Ridgid drill, and I checked their website. I contacted them through the website and asked if they really replace their batteries. The response I got back is that if the batteries die, you have to take them to a Ridgid repair center, not HD, and they will decide if the batteries malfunctioned or if they were abused. My guess is that they'll always say they were abused.

Has anyone successfully got replacement batteires from Ridgid? If they'll replace the batteires, I'll get a Ridgid drill in a hearbeat!!!

There is a post from 2 days ago on the battery's I think there replaced 1 out of 3 bad battery's.

I just checked my latest circular from Tractor Supply They have a Kawasaki 18 volt cordless drill with a drill set on sale for $29.99, usually $49.99. If I get a chance tomorrow, I'm going to go to TSC, and if it even looks half decent, I'm gonna buy it. I've bought some fairly decent drills that won't last me, at least if this one dies quickly, I'm only out $29.99. I don't expect it to be a high quality tool, but if I can use it for my projects, and it even lasts a year, I'll consider it a better deal than drills that cost over $100 and only last me 2 years. If it looks at least better than a Harbor Freight drill, I'll buy this one. Then if I find a deal on a good drill, I'll have a spare. I still have a section of metal roofing on my barn that I need to refasten down, and I need a drill now.

But wait...that Ryobi for $39.88 sounds like a great deal. Is that sale still on?
