Cordless Heatgun

I am in the market for a cordless heatgun. My locks froze on shed the other day. I had to drag some extension cords out to the shed to use a heat gun on the lock, after alcohol failed to unfreeze it. The heat gun works in a matter of minutes.

I never thought I would need a cordless one, but this application kind of opened my eyes.

I have Dewalt and Milwaukee Batteries platforms already.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

Cordless heatguns are near worthless in my experience, unless your task is like 5 mins

I have the Milwaukee. I bought it for heat shrink, but it doesn't get hot enough for that use. I have used it to melt the ice off my side view mirrors. thaw out locks, and heat cold wire up enough to strip the insulation off, and maybe warm my hands a time of two.

For thawing out locks, it will be just fine. Just don't expect it to perform as well as a corded version.

With 5.0 batteries, it does have a longer run time than I expected.

Some of the accessories you can buy help focus the heat so its more useful.

I have the milwaukee, it's ok, I just ordered the dewalt so I will see which is better, but the dewalt puts out 100 more watts. Also the dewalt comes with a couple of tips, the milwaukee tip set 40$ so I'll keep that one for removing psa sanding pads.

I use mine primarily for heat shrink in the field. I have a Dewalt and a buddy has the Milwaukee, between the two I prefer my Dewalt, I have both Dewalt and Milwaukee stuff but in this case prefer the Dewalt

I have a cordless dewalt and I like it a lot

Even with 5ah batteries it does go through them pretty quick though

It would probably work nice on a frozen lock but would use up the battery

The extra tip accessories they give you is nice, i use the curly one for heat shrink tubing and solder connections
