cordless impact goodyear or dewalt

I'm looking to pick up an item for a good friend. He doesn't have an air compressor and seems to hate the corded one he has, even if it did the job.


Seems $70 pepboys Goodyear 24v impact rated at 200ft lbs could really do about 140-145lb.

I was also looking around i could piece him a dewalt Dw059 impact for about $90-115 and a 18v battery/charger for $40-50. So about $150. rated at 300ft lbs.

Two guns with 2 diffrent price points. All he really does AFAIK is tire rotations. He came over for when he did his timing belt knowing that crank pulley will need a compressor to pop off.

You think the Dewalt is worth twice as much as the goodyear?

i have the good year on the truck with me every night honestly i miss my snappy ct4850 i bought it to get me by but it ***** at breaking them loose the battery is weak after 4-6 uses (30 lugs)

i've used the dewalt much heavier actually a load on the wrist breaks them loose and worth the extra $$ but i'ld still step hgiher if used in any frequency

Not a lot of direction there. The DeWalt should be okay, I know many on here will recommend the Snap On or Matco, but for the average Joe, the DeWalt will do fine.

Goodyear at pepboys looks a little different from the old one, and has what looks like a $25 rebate required to get the $70 black friday sale price. Cheap, but I am maybe more tempted with the Sears C3 impact deals around $110. I don't follow the Dewalt models enough to keep track.

Hard to decide on what will do the job with the least damage to the wallet. What surprises me is that none of the impacts show up cheap used, almost always better to wait for a sale and buy new. Sooner or later I know I will get one.

I love my C3 I bought the Lithium battery and it makes a way better tool. I use the NiCad for the flash lights.

I had a Mac 18 volt impact and had to many issues with it and sold it for a loss, I bought it off of the mac truck. I now have a dewalt and it has been great I just do not care for the toggle lever the dewalt has.

I've had the Goodyear for about 6 years now. I purchased a second battery with it. It has failed to remove only one lug nut out of hundreds. That one didn't want to loosen with a 24" breaker bar. The Goodyear is a good impact for the home owner/ weekend mechanic and will remove properly torqued lug nuts. It is not a pro grade tool. The batteries have lasted six years and are still good.

Hmmmm DeWalt seems to hold up and work pretty well for the general contractor and people in the building trades. Not sure why it wouldn't be as good as a Snap-On for automotive work.

Yes, the dewalt is better but still not very good. I'd get the goodyear and scrape by. I have a Milwaukee that I just got, and it set me back over $350. Cordless powertools are a crapshoot in the bargain bin. What works great for some would last a day for others....

I'd say buy him a good breaker bar or good ratchet.

All he does is breaking loose lug nuts, just keep using corded one and buy something more useful.

the dewalt is decent... and really popular with contractors since they have alot of dewalt stuff and the batteries are the same... cant stand the toggle trigger myself

i have a snap on 6850 and a milwaukee 24v ...for the best value id buy a milwaukee... forget the goodyear

Sort of off topic but I am highly invested in the Milwaukee M18 line. Does anyone have first hand experience with any of the M18 models. I have used a Dewalt that belonged to a friend and it was plenty powerful but VERY heavy and bulky.

I kinda poked around talking to him today and the reason why he hates the corded one was because of the cord. I guess he does go to the junkyard more often then i thought as well.

matco/ SO impacts are out of the question as price point is way more then i want to spend.

I would pull the trigger on the C3 and it's price point is extremely reasonable and the only high cost is the lithium but that goes for any battery that is lithium.
Another option is to buy just the tool (no batteries) and then buy the lithium with charger. I use a corded impact for the really heavy.

I also don't like the toggle trigger on the Dewalt (plus it's non-variable). I like them on cordless screwdrivers, but not impacts. The Dewalt makes it worse by having the direction reversed... up for reverse, down for forward, and for some reason the reverse side is smaller than the forward. That being said, it does have more power than the Goodyear.

I liked the side-to-side trigger on the Goodyear so much I bought the first air gun to have one, the CP-7749.
