Cordless impact shooting sparks question

I bought a new SO 14.4v 3/8 cordless impact, and was wondering if other guys that have this model have experienced this condition:

When I release the trigger,at times I have seen it shoot out a straight lightning bolt-like spark about 8 inches long.Sometimes at the 2 o'clock position, other times at about an 8 o'clock position.( when viewed from behind the tool )

It looks freaky, and since I work around gas alot,it's got me a little concerned.

Thought I'd ask here before I ask the SO guy about it.This is only a few months old. This is a complete warranty replacement, since the 1st one failed at the trigger switch the second day I bought it.

It only does it every once in awhile, and it happens so fast I even question if I really see it.It happens enough though,to assure me that I'm not seeing things.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

an 8 inch spark?
you gotta be kidding?

if you release the trigger and the tool has an electric brake feature, then its common to see a small spark off the armature but that will stay within the case of the tool and even at that should be no more than 1/8 to 1/4 inch

what you have a spark generator

The motor has to be replaced. Its burned, and the reason may be because of overload.

I'm not kidding. It looks like one of those red lazer pointers, only bright-light white.

It's one of those things make you step back, and think," gosh..did that really happen?"

I've noticed that this unit puts out a lot of cooling air off the fan.The air grille for the motor has real big slots. It's almost annoying to use it at times, because the air blast gets you right in the eyes, even with safety glasses.Sometimes I use my left hand to deflect the air blast.

Is this just because of the brake-feature it has? What's the purpose of having an instant-stop brake on a cordless impact? My Dewalt doesn't have that,or my older 1/2 in.
Snap-on cordless.

After it happens,I've stopped what I was doing and tried to get it to do it while I'm really watching........and of course then it never does it.

Thanks,
Steve
