I own the Ridgid 1/2 in Impact wrench and it is awesome. Not too much info on it here because its relatively new. Way more balls than an impact driver and it kills lugs, lags and anything else I have used it for.

If you are going for cordless, it makes sense to invest in a brand that you already own, or plan on owning because of batteries and chargers. I went with Ridgid because I already had the Hammer Drill, impact driver and oscillating multitool (all in 18v LiIon).

You won't know how you ever lived without one.

I recently picked up the Ryobi 18v 1/2" impact driver. I like it alot. Already had the smaller 1/4" impact driver and used for years happily. Ryobi is more robust than people think, at least for their drills and impacts cordless, sawsalls too. If I was starting from scratch with a cordless tool line, i would certainly consider Ridgid with their battery warranty, but you pay for that upfront with much higher prices than say Ryobi to begin with, in a slightly more robust tool quality. The pros love Milwaukee but again you pay for it (also in the Ryobi/Ridgid/Milwaukee family and really just a more robust Ridgid or Ryobi, as all the Milwaukee are designed and made overseas now too). I view it as use the tool that meets your needs for the best price. For me that is the Ryobi/Craftsman C3 1/2" impact (same basic tool). If I needed more than this, get an air powered impact with a good compressor for the cost of one or two Milwaukee tools and batteries. - Paul

just got my fuel two days ago and its a freaking beast! you can get the bare tool for like 220 and a xc battery for around 50 and a charger for like 30 and that i guarantee you will out preform and impact for the price...... and like other's have said man don't cheep out i had the non fuel before the new one came out and this gun is light years ahead of it! if your want a cordless 1/2" there are two choice at the top level of prefomance IR w7150 or milwaukee m18 fuel... milwaukee in my mind is better for these reason's .... better warrenty on tools and battery and more tools in the m18 line up ! you can get a cordless leaf blower for god's sake!

I have the Dewalt 18v, DW059. It is huge and heavy but has decent power. It is no good for small spaces though! I think it has a max of 300 ft/lb of torque, nowhere near some of the others being mentioned here.
I also have the 3/8 12V max impact. It isn't all that powerful but it is very handy. It will fit about anywhere.
