Was ripping some material with my bosses cordless 18v fuel skill saw yesterday. Would start a cut and the built in light would come on...after about 5-10 sec of cutting, the light would go off. This can't be normal. Is the saw F'ed up or am I missing something?

I just tried it with my M12 Fuel 5-3/8" saw and ran it for a minute straight. The little LED light stayed on the whole time. If the battery lights are blinking it's the anti-kickback protection from either cutting reaction wood which is clamping down on the blade, not holding the saw straight in the curf and sort of turning the saw, or feeding too quickly.

The work light or the battery light? If it's the work that doesn't sound right.

Is the battery indicator blinking when it shuts off?

I'm talking about the led work light. Wasn't paying attention to the battery indicator light, so I don't know if it was blinking.

The battery must have had a good charge...I didn't have any problem making the cut. Based on what firworks is saying, there must be something wrong with the saw. It was kind of annoying...The lighting conditions weren't that great. My eyes would adjust to having the light being on and when it cut out, it took a sec for them to re-adjust to not having it. Getting older probably doesn't help either.:lol_hitti

Not my saw, but I'll pass the info along to my boss. Thanks.

Just keep in mind it's possible the M18 works differently, though I doubt it.
