To throw in a curveball:

Buy the best bare tool for the job then buy Rigid batteries for the LSA and use battery adapters for the tools. Win, win, win? Or just the dumbest idea ever?

It doesn't work that way. Typically when you buy Ridgid batteries that aren't part of a kit, the LSA program doesn't apply.

What's really stupid is that the fifty YouTube reviewers, with the exception of the dude that always wears a wife beater, have failed to mention the one thing Milwaukee truly did improve in the drill and that's the chuck which on all previous models would self loosen. This to me is the biggest improvement. The wrist saving clutch is a good thing as my Metabo hammer drills have had this feature for thirty years. I'm glad to see that Milwaukee has finally caught up in this regard as well. I'm so tired of watching assholes drill giant holes in wood, which is what they consider testing, and ignoring the general performance of the tool.

I have not used it yet but I did test the clutch. Some have the Gen 3 at work - I have a Hilti - and the clutch is a POS. It turns multiple times If you hold it while squeezing the trigger on the lowest clutch setting and like you said it self loosens. The new one will not turn at all on the lowest clutch setting while holding the chuck..

It's just poor design. Why does the industry use multiple battery platforms when everybody from the customers to the manufacturer's would have benefited tremendously if they used a standard form or a couple of standard forms?

It so stupid it's like owning a Chevy and finding you can only buy tires to fit that brand and nothing else!

This is common in the PC/tech business and it's one of the main reasons we have such a competitive PC market. Just look at things like HD's, SD cards. They need to release industry standards and recommend common platforms. Come together and use the best design and NOT a brand specific design!

This has been done for decades in many other industries with great success.

But then you wouldn't get locked into one battery system and manufacturers would have to compete on the actual quality and features of each individual tool. As it stands, you just do enough marketing to win someone over to your brand, and once they've got several hundred dollars or more ******* in batteries for your system, you basically have to buy their tools regardless of whether it's the best tool in the segment.
