Looking to replace several 200w incandescents with corn cob LED's. Is this a product that's ready for prime time? One reviewer on Amazon mentions using them in pairs to avoid "bands" of light. Another describes flimsy construction.

I noticed Home Depot carries a 300w incandescent replacement but only in 5000K. The color and wattage options seem fairly limited for higher watt applications.

When corn cobs first came out a couple of years ago, they were miserable. You can still buy those miserable versions today. The technology wasn't ready for the designs that were being created and they would burn up pretty quickly. Most of the cheapest ones you'll see on the internet are good examples of the old designs.
Over those years, though, they've improved. Today, you can get them in all different sizes and in a variety of colors. You need to make sure that you correctly match your socket size (standard light bulb is E26). Compare LUMENS, not WATTS, to get the amount of light that you want. These guys make a nice one, and their selection guide is full of info....http://www.bergeninc.com/lighting-lamps.aspx

Good luck

I think I'll hold off while the technology evolves. Thanks for the input.

We just purchased 10 100W CRN lights for our 100x100 hangar. To convert our 31 dying 400W Hid lights. Bypassing the transformer is the hardest part of the install. Bright is an understatement, lights are rated 6000-6700k so its a little blue. With a $4300 initial cost it will take us just 22 months to recoup the costs in Electric savings.
