I took apart this cornwell 1/4" ratchet and when I pulled it apart the mechanism flipped 180 degrees. I took the whole thing apart and half of the spring was under the ball and half of it was all twisted up and above the ball. I bent the spring back as best as I could and reassembled the ratchet. I used plenty of grease. Now it has a "hard spot". It ratchets just fine for most of the circle but hits one spot where it has very high resistance. The teeth looked fine when I pulled it apart. Anyone know why it might have such high resistance? I dont see how that spring could cause that.

Earlier this year I sent a ratchet to Cornwell for warranty/repair (I did call them first).
They sent me a new ratchet.
You paid for a warranty, use it.

I probably will. I just would rather fix it if I can easily do so. If its a bur on one of the teeth that I missed then I'm just going to warranty it.

It doesn't sound like it's the spring but the teeth are fine maybe the mechanism? Anymore pics of the individual parts?

I didn't take pictures when I pulled it apart -_- I'm wishing now that I would have.

I doubt it is the mechanism. The ratchet hangs up in the same spot and it happens once every 360 degrees. If it was the mechanism it would Happen more frequently while if it was damaged teeth on the main part of the ratchet then it would occur once per full circle (which it is). I'm thinking that it might be as simple as something fell down between a couple teeth and thats what is causing the resistance.

I left it in a mixture of simple green, Dawn, and water overnight and then rinsed it off in the morning and they cane out clean.

I'll probably just take it apart again to satisfy my curiosity and post pictures of whatever I find.

Looks like a chunk of the pawl is broken off and the spring pushed the ball into the broken part of the pawl.
