Stopped at the pawn shop today and they had a snap on and cornwell 3/4 ratchet. The snap on was $149.00 and very used and engraved and the cornwell was $49.99 and no engraving, just used. I asked if they would take $35.00 and they said yes!!
I have been looking for awhile and got one today!! The lugnuts on VW beetle's are insanely tight, the newer bug.
Which one would you guys have bought??

After my Cornwell warranty experience, I would have bought the Cornwell. 1/5 the cost? No question. I am very pleased with my Cornwell tools so far.

They can't be that tight. I've never had a problem with them.

I remove VW hub nuts (~M22 thread) with a 24" breaker bar and a pin punch stuck in the brake disk vents to stop the hub rotating, or do it with the wheel on the ground and the handbrake on.

Yeah, I usually just remove my lug nuts with a 24" breaker bar as well. They are torqued to 100 lb/ft. You probably got a hold of a car that visited a quick lube recently. A lot of those idiots torque the **** out of the lug nuts.

Read my last post. Someone probably did run them on full blast with a 3/4" impact.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm just playing with ya'.

In the old shop we had an E39 BMW 5-Series with a seized wheel bolt. Nothing would remove it, we couldn't even shear the hex off it. In the end we drilled out the whole thing. It was crazy, never had anything else like it. VW wheel bolts are known to get corrosion and become pretty tight, but never had one that bad i couldn't take it off with my 24" bar.

My flexhead 1/2 snappy was doing it but damn I did not like it!! This will do the trick!!
I just need to find a longer handle and some 3/4 sockets. It starts over again.

I like the Cornwells as every one knows. We have had a lot of trucks come back from tireshops. With the nuts so tight I had to use 3/4 drives to loosen them.

Nice score. 3/4 drive ratchets and handles have NO flex compared to longer 1/2 inch stuff and breaker bars. You will be glad you now got one in your box.

I stood on my really old 3/4 ratchet just to see what it was like to break loose a 360 lb ft LR Disco hub nut without an impact. Just put all of my 180 on my right foot and it slowly worked loose.

Darn it Wrenchr, you ****. Those 3/4 rathets are usually a fortune at the pawn shops. I'm jealous as usual. :)

I agree, I rarely ever find many bargains at my local hock shops................though one time I did buy a 4' long 1/2" drive Snappy extension for something like 20 bucks! That was a very good day.

Well bought. At $50... you'd have been a fool to leave it there. At $35, you simply stole it. Of course, they probably only gave the poor sap who originally hocked it about $10 for it.

Interesting how the head looks similar to the Snap-On and Canadian Gray 3/4" ratchets; the main difference I can see is the ratcheting selector, other wise very similar design/body shape!
