I don't think you're going wrong at $1400 if it includes the cart. You're basically paying 25% of retail, and I've heard resellers like to be at 30% or less when buying big tool lots. You won't get rich reselling that, but you can get your money back and more.

If you keep it, you may be able to get warranty service via mail from Cornwell.

Very rough, but street value is probably between 40 and 60%, say $2200-$3300

I wouldn't hesitate to pay $1400, for personal use, especially with the cart.

For resale... If the kid is local, and still paying a dealer on the tool set. I'd be concerned a bit about resale, if his own dealer won't buy them off of him at that price. That's a lot of tools to part out, at good prices, before you even have a chance at making a profit. I think you'd really have to look up all the stock numbers on that site and see what realistically you could obtain selling. I'm also a bit concerned why the guy doesn't part them out himself... granted, that does take a lot of work - which should be compensated if you do it.

Does he just want to get out for the remaining balance he owes or does he want to recoupe some of what he put into it.

$1400 for around $5700 worth of tools I would say is a kick *** deal! Especially if it comes with the box as well.

If you could get them under 1700 I would jump on them. Warranty would not really be an issue because if you break anything you could always just mail them back for replacement since you are not a full time tech and you have backups of the basics. I would pick them up in a heartbeat if he is selling them for the 1400 owed

And as far as warranty issues go, you can always deal with Cornwell directly. That's what I do with Mac Tools since I don't have a truck near me.

I don't worry about dealers as I have not had anybody other than Cornwell in the shop steady for over fiftenn years. Mac no Matco No Snap-on another one of the ten just went belly up so I always just ship them in and move on. Mac, Proto SK, and Cornwell are great on send ins and Snap On is slow six weeks min. to get them back and Matco must have return order or they toss them out so they are bad.
