Cornwell bit set; what color stainless

I had this aluminum case with bits from the cornwell guy. The plastic window broje and I don't want my bits falling out. So I cut some stainless to replace it. Thinking about powder coating the new metal piece blue or black. I think black will match well, blue may be off color. how do I get that cool swirl design in the metal? The one with lots of little circles perfectly spaced and patterned...

Same layout and basic technique as the video but you can also use a wire cup brush and lapping compound. To keep the pattern tight you may need to electrical tape the brush to stiffen it.


I have also used 3m roloc scotch bright maroon disks in the DP.

Ha ha. I don't have streaming to watch videos. I had a particular image in my head from when we built a race car. We made the dash out of "brushed aluminum" that was done by a machine. The piece was 4' wide but was so perfectly done. I ended up powder coating the piece "smoke black". I saved the program in the waterjet maybe I'll cut another and try to do the pattern.

Here is the finished color. I'm very happy with it in person, though the camera does not capture the true color, fade, or glare.

Cool video. A pretty simple process to acheive that look. Might be something fun to try out.
