My Cornwell dealer came in today, not in good spirits, seems Cornwell is doing away with their traditional hard handles, with some cheesy rubber coated ****! The only color is blue.

The Witte drivers are getting the **** handles also!

Most of the industrial finish stuff is going away!

Their Taiwan fine tooths, the new ones, are nowhere to be seen.

You see it folks, the death of another company, who runs these companies..............oh yeah, I already know, and stopped working for them; because they are idiots. SAD:(

Vince, I like the look of those big blue hard handles. Was just asking Merk about them. How do you like them?

Their hard handles are fine, but they stopped making them as they were, whatever is left only, argh!

I hate all truck tool companies, they frig up all the good stuff, and dilute it to mediocre junk.

Changing things, does not always make them better.

Screwdrivers: I won't be missing the Witte's with their holes.

Ratchets: As long as Cornwell keeps their traditional contoured steel handle, I'm good. :)

There is talk of "upgrading" their smooth contour handles for "finger groove" Blue Point style, what do you think of that.

I would then locate all their manufacturing and warehouse facilities on the map and then install explosives in key structural locations so that the structures fall in on themselves. I would also arrange for all the detonators to initiate simultaneously.

I remember you mentioning this on another thread, but you were actually doing work for them? Or just sort of promoting them? The love affair with Cornwell really didn't last too long:shocking: Who's next? Why not Proto? Maybe you're expecting too much from the traditional mobile truck tool lines :dunno:

Or maybe he thinks a tool should just work and be left alone.

I know it's a radical idea but if it sells and works fine then just leave it alone.

What I expect is quality and consistency, without fluff. If that is expecting too much, well..........................so be it!

It'd be interesting to see if sales figures are dictating the change - if the existing style isn't selling, perhaps they're changing it to jumpstart sales?

They want more sales, but try to get them by changing stuff, when their drop in quality is what chased the sales away in the first place.

:headscrat The bean counters think, lets keep our quality problems, and add some crappy neoprene to our handles, and import some more re-labels with our name. That outta do it.

My Cornwell dealer is starting to wish he never signed up for it.................

Didn't Cornwell make a big deal about making all of their stuff themselves, or am I thinking of someone else?

Like Snap-On when they went with the soft rubber grips on their ratchets. I like my old black plastic hard handle ones. The sponge rubber won't come clean.

the last maker of hard handles is going soft. I dont like that at all, the cornwell hard handle is so nice. I have seen and held the new model, its too bulky (even bigger than the hard handle) and just looks like it wont clean up, just like snap on.

my current cornwell dealer left mac because of all of their problems and importing. He was my mac guy, then one week he showed up in a cornwell truck and i asked him what happened and he said he closed his franchise with mac because he didnt like the way the company was heading. now hes with cornwell and they are starting down the same path. ill have to talk with him about it on thursday

That would be a great idea! I have a bunch of Cornwell ratchets right now and as soon as they change over the handle design their value will double!

The old plastic ratchet handles were durable, but not the most ergonomic in the world... Just as long as they don't go and put a hole in the handle like Toptul does, how bad can they be? :dunno:

You mean you've seen them already?

Yep, on the truck...............they are like the GearWrench screwdriver handles, but cheaper looking quality. Blue plastic and gummy black rubber, with paint-on writing. :shocking:

Compared to the old handles they are hideous!

So, what kind of market research do these tool companies do before they radically change their product lines? They must get some input from their customers, right?

Anymore im afraid it starts in the finance department, Some pencil pusher is looking for a promotion and he decides the company can save X amount of dollars by changing something like this.

So has anyone tried to do a handle transplant on a Cornwell yet?

I quit dealing with MAC tools (Still love the macsimizer) about a year after Stanley bought them out. I ordered a special edition set of MAC John Force screwdrivers for my box I keep special edition only tools in. I had them set on my toolbox and decided one day to take them home and put them in my show box. I tore open the package and noticed they were made in either China or Tiwan. They were just flufffed over Stanley screwdrivers. I had a buddy buy a set of the Foose special editions. Nothing but Tiwan Stanley ****. other than the cheaply built box you could buy the same set of tools from Wal-mart for about 80 dollars at the time. More and more Mac tools dealers have gone under since the Stanley takeover.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Warren Buffet quotes: "I try to buy stock in businesses that are so wonderful that an idiot can run them. Because sooner or later, one will."
