I found a Cornwell Mobile Work Center on Craigslist, and I'm trying to decide if it's both a good deal and a worthwhile investment.

The box, part number CTBMM800RD, list for $2300 new though I'm sure it's cheaper off the truck. I've found one around 1 year old in great shape for $1200 cash. Here is the info from Cornwell's site:

Product Description

- 2 inch “on center” slides maximize drawer configuration options.
High-strength locking system.
• Lever lock inside top tray secures drawers.
• Keyed lid lock includes tubular over-molded key with Cornwell logo.
Polished cushion-grip handle.
• Fully assembled for easy attachment to either side of the work center.
Two Rigid and Two Swivel casters with side brakes.
• Crowned 6” polyurethane wheels.
• Load rating over 800 lbs. per caster.
• Casters meet ICWM (Institute of Caster and Wheel Manufacturers) requirements.
15 Gauge stainless steel lid with stiffener doubles as a heavy-duty work surface.
• Gas struts provide easy opening and closing.
Heavy-duty embossed drawer and tray liners.

Also available in: Black, Blue, Orange.

It's 44in wide and 26in deep not including the handle. It's a huge cart, and I like the stainless surface. I know that SnapOn boxes maintain their value longer, but I really like the deep wide drawers and I haven't found anything as deep on a SnapOn cart.

So at close to 50% of retail cost, is that a good deal for this tool cart? Does anyone have one so as to comment on quality and durability?

Thanks!!

That thing is massive for a cart. More like a roll cab. My nephew has one and he is a 9-5 mechanic and it holds all his stuff. 1200 is a good deal if in good shape

Thanks for the feedback. It is quite large, but I like the wider footing.

Can you open the drawers when the lid is down? Cause otherwise it's not a very good work surface - you'll need a tool and won't be able to open the drawer to get one till you clear off the top.

If you can it looks like it will hold a lot of stuff, which means it will be heavy to move around.

Just some thoughts......

Lever lock inside top tray secures drawers

planned use? backyard, pro?

For 1200, its a good price considering the size

Mobility could be an issue

As said above there is a drawer lock lever in the top. You will love the way the drawers open. The drawer pulls on Cornwell boxes are the best around. It's very heavy duty and will last for years. I actually am considering either 2 of them or their new 75" box.

Home DIY. I have a 41in box, but I hate the 14.5 inch depth drawers. I wouldn't necessarily move it much, if at all, so that's not a downer for me. I just don't want to overspend on a used box
