Anyone know anything about the difference between these 2 corwell JR30's?

One is the current design, and the other must have been a previous version.

The one with the screw on face plate (2 holes oposite of each other) is the older design, still the same tooth count though.

I like tools that are made in my Home State of Ohio; after a long phone call to the folks at cornwell I learned a few things, and one thing I learned is they are somewhat clueless when it comes to design change and dates. The person on the phone told me to go to the ( AA ) website for information.

So if you can send Alloy artifacts (AA) a message and ask if them if they know of the date change. Shame that Cornwell does not have that information, lost to time or at least you will need a good catalog.

I wonder if the rebuild these or just replace them with new ones? I looks like the parts would be interchangeable.

Have you taken it apart yet? Take a punch and put it in one of the holes, and hammer it sideways to take it apart. Note sure if the parts interchange though. I would try to keep the old one, if only for the history!

spray it with some wd40 and use some channelocks to push the ball back in, it will start to work free. Or just sell me the ratchet :D

I bought one just like the one in your picture that is only marked "cornwell usa" at a local swap meet this weekend for 12 dollars.

Stripped and thoroughly cleaned and lubed it.

Works like new now.

Back in the day the old timers would soak there ratchet heads in a coffee can filled with trans fluid to lube these ratchets. I would use Marvel Mystery Air tool oil today. Marvel Mystery Oil was used by my shop for air tools, and always around the shop. Try soaking the ratchet head for a couple of days first.
