Cornwell Tool Box Question

I'm a lurker on this forum who last worked in a garage professionally about ten years ago but still do plenty of wrench turning for one reason or another.

I don't have a real good handle on what used boxes are worth these days but I came across this that I was hoping to get an opinion on:

Is this worth checking out? It's a bit of a ride for me, otherwise I'd just go take a look at it.

Thanks,
Matt

That's a killer deal if it's in as good a shape as he's saying. Bring something with you that can haul it home. Just make sure it isn't someone waiting with a gun to rip you off (happened out here a few times, even to two cops).

Thats a smoin' deal IMO.... That around here would normally go from $1200- $1800 in okay condition. I say go for it. Later

That's a helluva deal and I would jump at it.

I would just want to be sure the seller doesn't owe a balance on the box to Cornwell, which should be able to be cleared up with a quick phone call.

$750 is well worth it.. I have a similar box in burgandy and its a well made heavy box. My only complaint is I need a new handle and thus far haven't been able to come up with one.

That's a kennedy made box for Cornwell. $750 is a very good deal for it. List was $3695 off of the 08 price list if it's a CTB-CAB5824BK.

Merkava_4, you're right. It's gone. I believe it had been listed at $1000 and didn't sell, so the price was lowered to $750. Apparently that did it.

I can't really comment on the warranty on a new box.. there is a thread on here somewhere I started where I was trying to dig up a handle for mine and got NO LOVE from Cornwell and Kennedy (who Cornwell referenced me to) basically said "we can get you a key" Kind of annoying to put it mildly. However I have made said handle "work" but its still not right.

Yeah on stuff like that you can't wait around.. just gotta pull the trigger knowing its a good deal. A box that size at that price is generally a deal..

I suspected so, but I don't really "need" another box at this point. The old SO and Matco boxes I have still have space in them...but you know how it is... :)

While you're here asking about it, someone else is buying it :p

True enough. I wasn't really that concerned or I would tried to hide the detailed information on it. If someone on here actually did get it, good for them. If I find one I'm really desperate to get, you can be sure you won't hear from me until it's sitting in my garage. :)

No, I didn't mean that someone here would jump you on it, although that's possible - my point is that at least around here, the very good deals on Craigslist - and a Cornwell rollcab for $750 is a very good deal - typically are gone within minutes of posting. Usually the time required to post in a forum and ask "is this a good deal" will keep you from being the guy who buys it.

I'm not sure we had a Cornwell truck in our area; or if we did, he only stopped once in a blue moon. Other than one guy who had some wrenches he swore by, no one had any Cornwell stuff so I wasn't sure how their boxes stacked up.

Point taken. In retrospect, I'm somewhat surprised it didn't sell for the $1000 it was listed for before.

The economy is rough and people are waiting for that can't pass up deal, the one where you can't lose, plus not everyone wants, can move or store a box that large. You have to price those large boxes to move, on the craig's list out here we have several over-priced boxes listed repeatedly for a "firm" price that slowly works it's way down. For me that box is too big, not in storage capacity (I could fill several of those), but in size and weight. Another deal will come along sooner or later, the way things are going with the economy I expect there will plenty of deals.

I'm fully expecting that Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb will be FULL of deals.... the way they are talking folks now getting unemployment have the potential to lose their benefits dec 31 (they say its roughly 1million people) This could translate into huge amounts of people dumping anything/everything to stay afloat and possibly in march/april/may if those people haven't already lost things like their houses/cars/etc you'll start seeing an even larger amount of foreclosures, repos, etc. Its a scary thought but its one thats literally 45-90 days around the corner. Enough of a thread hijacking though...

Someone got a deal!!
