I'm at a place with a pretty cool cornwell dealer, figured I'd see what GJ recommends. I have a 3/8 ratchet from them that is nice.

Anything you guys would recommend to others off the Cornwell truck?

Thanks!

I played with one of their impacts and liked it. The guy I was talking to told me their scan tools got lifetime free updates.

Beyond that I don't know much about them.

Anything from the jr72 line of ratchets. All of them are great. Also the jr40 30t long 3/8dr ratchet is awesome. Pretty much any of their ratchets are great. Nothing spectacular but comfortable to use and tough as hell. I own a bunch and they are my go to ratchets. Even over my dual 80 snap ons. The German witte screwdrivers are very nice as well.

As soon as the screwdriver set (csd8s) goes on special I'm all over them. I won't even have to look at the flyer, the tool guy will just hand them them when I go through the door! Been after them for 6 months now.

I have that set. Get the German rebranded witte drivers instead. Much better tips. I do like the handles of the regular Cornwell driver better than the "fuzzy" ones. I use the csd8s in my road box. They are nice. Just think the others are better

I don't think they went back to the old tips. The only thing they kept was the handle. Vermont American use to make the old screwdrivers with the soft tips.

What do you like about them so much? My understanding is that they're made by sunex (private brand tools) in Taiwan. I have that style of handle on a trim tool and long hose pick, I think it's a little on the soft side. The Cornwell rebadged Witte screwdrivers are nice. Merk doesn't like them because there's a hole in the handle. The Cornwell handles are a little longer than most witte models though.

The issue with Cornwell "must haves" for me is that Cornwell isn't a segment leader in anything. they have nice stuff but, it's hard to pick them as first choice. I do love my over loaded Cornwell 700 series tool cart and will probably upgrade to their 800 series next year. However, their designs are somewhat dated. Even their new JR72 series ratchets aren't state of the art. Why? They're not sealed. They use a pin instead of a threaded screw on the hinge handle for their flex head ratchets, and because they use two pintles on the pawl gear. the head is a little on the thick side. Two other things bug me. Cornwell only marks their wrenches on one side, and instead of using 1 scalloped cut out on each side of the female square drive end on their chrome sockets, for drive tool detent balls, they only have a hole on one side. It's not 1940 any more. the rest of the worls has moved forward. Yes, I know these are all minor issues but for me, when paying tool truck prices, I expect more but, that's just me. I encourage everyone to support their Cornwell driver if you have one.

Those are all interesting observations Fedwrench, thanks for that input.

What sort of warranty does Cornwell offer on their tools? Do they only warranty their hardlines or is everything lifetime?

I like the way they fit my hand, and the fact that I can put a wrench on the shaft is what sold me on them over the Wittes. I've been toying with green hard handled S&Ks but, I'd rather buy off the truck than Amazon.

It varies by item. Most cornwell branded hand tools have a lifetime warranty. As with all tool trucks, you need to ask your dealer about a specific item's warranty.

Like I said above. I have a set and they are VERY nice for Taiwan made. The handles are very comfortable and the tips seem to hold up. The p2 on the German(witte) set is the best fitting Phillips I have ever used. You can put a screw on the driver and hold it by the screw. It fits so well the screw will actuall hold the driver. If they would put the regular handle on the witte made blades that would be my ideal screwdriver. Don't be afraid to get them they are a great complete set for the money.

Awesome input guys, thanks, hopefully this thread can expand and be a decent reference.

The issue with Cornwell "must haves" for me is that Cornwell isn't a segment leader in anything.

I've kind of come to the same conclusion. I am pretty well setup, well past purchasing basic, hard line tools. I was hoping Cornwell had some exclusive tools that would be convenient/time saving, etc. Snap On offers a number of exclusive/substantially higher quality tools that others don't/can't match. Hopefully I'm wrong, I'd love to try out some of their product without buying duplicates of tools I already own.
