That is a driver issue. If they had more franchise owners, they would be spread out more.

I'm not sure if they realize just how much sales they're missing... it's almost like the management is out of touch with reality. They need to come up with some other channel, because their truck dealer network is severely lacking.

I would say for every one professional mechanic that has a Cornwell dealer, there are probably ten that would be interested in purchasing their tools, that have no way of doing so.

4 tool truck brands makes it difficult to compete especially if all 4 are in the same area

I have seen a Cornwell truck once in my entire life, and that was when it drove past me on the highway somewheres far away. Never saw one around work. Matco and Snap-On are the only games in town around here, with a Mac truck that wanders to a select few shops.

If Cornwell wants to expand, that's fine, but they should concentrate on expanding in the U.S.A. first lol!

Probably expanding in other countries where the is less competition. Maybe when the get more capital from expanding in other countries, they can work out better prices for new dealers in the USA so they can compete better against the other 3?

Agreed. It baffles me that they won't make an effort to get their tools into the hands of people in an already established market with long standing brand name recognition (pretty much guaranteed sales if they actually gave people a way to buy them), yet they want to try to break into a market that knows hardly anything about their tools, and has essentially zero brand recognition?

It just boggles the mind.

Snap on, Matco, Mac and what? There are only those three truck brands, unless you count SK?

I buy tools from Snap on when I must, but I'll never buy from Cornwell, because they don't want my business.

Why don't you guys complaining contact them to see about starting a franchise in your area? The mobile tool biz is a tough game especially at the start so I would say its tough to find someone with the money and credit history willing to take the plunge.

Hey, Cornwell tools were featured on that show called "Gearz" (I think). I saw Youtube clips where they were saying they need franchise drivers. Apparently that's not working out too well.

They should just start selling on their website like Snap-On, MAC and Matco. It's stupid that they won't.

Absolutely!!! Their dealers may cry foul but, it would be an excellent way to increase sales and brand exposure.

I'm saddened to say that over the years some of the nicest tool dealers I dealt with were Cornwell dealers. It's sad because they didn't last against Snap on and Matco in my area. I know there are probably Cornwell dealers out there that rule their area but, it just isn't that way around me.

I'm actually lucky enough to have a Cornwell dealer, but I also know they are non-existent in some parts of the country. Hence all the jokes about unicorns and hobbits. Cornwell is the best kept secret in pro tools and it offends a lot of people that they don't market to non-pros but their target audience is in fact professional mechanics. It even says so in their mission statement. It's just how they roll.

Was the same way for the Matco guy around here. He was all over the place, seemed like a cool guy, but was fighting an uphill battle. The area had been Snap-on and Mac dominated for years. Most weren't familiar with Matco and didn't want anything to do with it. It was a hard sell.

Most of the people he ended up getting to buy from him were dead beats that burned their bridges with the Snap-on and Mac dealers. As you would imagine, most turned out to be dead beats with the Matco guy as well.

Matco guy didn't last 1-2 years and stopped coming around. Dunno if he changed areas or went under, but I never saw him or heard of anyone else around here seeing the Matco guy again.

It's one thing to take over an established route selling a product everyone is familiar with. It's another to start a route selling a product that most people know nothing about.

Many around here are on the Mac team or the Snap-on team. Most aren't a fan of both. One reigns supreme over the other in many folks eyes. Getting those guys to give some other brand a try is like trying to get Baptist preacher to give Buddhism a try.

I have a Cornwell dealer in my area. Mac is the ghost here. I wanted to purchase a top chest to my Tech1000 box and the Mac dealer was in one zip code over and said I was too far south for him to come. That zip is ACROSS THE STREET. I have been giving my money to Snap on and Cornwell. More and more Cornwell lately. Snap on is hard to justify when I could get an equal quality tool for less in most cases. I do have a lot of Snap on tools and love them but man the cost is getting harder to pony up for.

I see more cornwell trucks around this area than any other brand. Followed by snap-on, matco. We rarely see mac trucks here, they are pretty much non-existent. I also live less than a half hour from cornwell headquarters. I live pretty much within an hour of Cornwell, Matco and Mac headquarters now that I think about it..

Yep they are all in Ohio. I wonder if MAC is all over in Columbus since they are in Westerville which is like 10 min away from them. Like was said earlier I think Cornwell is THE best kept secret in pro tools. I wish my Cornwell guy would have come earlier so I could have bought more than Snap on. I would have saved some money. I think its great that they are in the UK now.

I think Cornwells problem is, if an entrepreneur has capital and credit... What does Cornwell offer to an investor to appeal better than Snap-On or Matco?

What he said, and alot of the items on trucks are the exact same product with a different brand and Cornwell is normally cheaper, sometimes by alot.

I wonder if any of the UK dealers will sell over the internet? Then I can place an online order to the UK and have them ship it to Canada.

Sounds ridiculous you say? Well, it's better than now, as I can't buy any Cornwell at all. Sheesh.

But thank you GJ for allowing me to have a full selection of Cornwell ratchets and a polished metric combo wrench set. I'd definitely buy more Cornwell if I could.
