That's the thing. They don't want them sold to the masses. They market to the pro and that's it. That's their customer that's who they want the tools sold to. They are plenty successful selling only through Dist. That is there business model. They are a private company with no shareholders to satisfy. Only their dealers and their dealers customers. The normal garage journal member is not who they market to and they are fine not selling to them.
Again, what if you USED to be a mechanic, and have a bunch of truck tools, but then the dealers don't want to deal with you?

Loved buying stuff from my old Cornwell guy, but he went under and I haven't harassed the new guy to come by yet. Once Snap-On is paid off I'm going to be harassing the Cornwell guy to get his *** back to my shop. Yeah, they rebrand some stuff, but most of the time they don't. I have a Cornwell 3/8 ratchet and some sockets and some other random things and I can't be happier. Seems like my money just goes farther on the Cornwell truck than Snap-On or even when I had a Mac guy.

I can't figure out why there are so many oodles of ancient Cornwell sockets and wrenches floating around Western New York. They must have been a major competitor with Snap On, Williams, etc. way back in the day. I'm talking like maybe 1930's-40's stuff.Lots of pre-chrome stuff. Did guys take those home from the war?

Never said they won't warranty any tools online or if you call. I think it's pretty WELL documented that they will usually no questions asked. Meant to quote your other post about warranty. What if you used to me a mechanic and the Cornwell guy is happy to deal with you? Sorry they support their franchisee 100% by not competing with them with online sales. Their business model is to only sell through its franchise base no matter how behind the times a few on a tool forum call them. I would be upset if I invested 100k or more into a franchise only to have said company sell this "exclusive" proffesional use product to any one and everyone online. Do a little test. Go on ebay and search each tool truck brand. Cornwell is on there the least of all. Why? Because they control their distribution. If you were a Cornwell guy you would appreciate their efforts.

l was talking more about snap on in my area. we dont have a cornwell truck at all as far as l know.
snap on tools around here are the tools that are hard to warranty.
so why should l support this area snap on dealer, when he won't support/warranty the tools l already have? Or take 6 months to get a tool back to me.

Yeah, cornwell dealer might be different.

I think this post makes more sense than your first. I believe not selling online has more to do with protecting their dealers than preventing non-pro's from buying there tools.

Yea that's the point I was originally was trying to convey. Sometime you type it out then re read and realize you didn't say it how you wanted. I guess I was trying to say by not marketing to the masses and only to pros protects the dealers. I am not a pro wrench either I was just speaking of the frustration my Snap On guy has about the amount of product flooded onto eBay and also sold at SO.com. My Cornwell guy has no such complaints. Both guys are great and are more than happy to deal with me. So there are dealers out there that are great guys.

yes there are, l just happen to have the jerks in my area. that's why l got the attitude l had/have.
I have had ones that were cool with me, but at the same time, it was a different area. And They were coming to the garage I was working at.

See, The WV DOT garage I was in, most of us guys had all the tools we needed, so it wasn't like the tool man (SO) could get thousands of dollars in sales to new techs.
So he just quit coming around.
But at the same time, The last Garage I was in, again, I had most of what I needed all the time, BUT, he still came in every week, showing us the latest promotional or on sale ltem. A lot of times, I would say, OK, what the hell, I'll take it.
Then another time,(same dealer) I needed a sae (standard) socket set for the house for the Harley, So I got it off him, instead of say Williams, from on line.
I know one or two bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch....LOL

I get it. I guess I have been spoiled with 2 great tool guys. Doesn't hurt either that they are great brands as well.

Well... a lot of replies! Not sure what I need for hard line tools right now, but I will probably have to check it out. Have to leave a creepy post-it note on his truck or something, hate to bother someone off work by ambushing them.

Our new Cornwell guy is a really cool dude.
I love their hardline tools. The rest is relabled.
I use their impact sockets daily.
I recently bought their bent handle flex head 72 tooth ratchet. It's nice.

And since he's a Cornwell rep, he knows quality, so don't bring over a 6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon or Natural Ice. :D

LOL no thanks. My poison is usually Guinness, but not everyone likes that.

Maybe I can fill all those empty socket tray pegs in my tool box with Cornwell sockets like I'm supposed to. :rocker:

(OK so it would be nice to be without empty pegs...)

Check out the jr72 or the flex version. Or even the 36t standard ratchets. The jr40 is the smoothest "coarse" tooth ratchet I have ever used. The handles are the most comfortable chrome ratchets you will ever use. The witte made screwdrivers are great.

Here's a real-time map of just that. Let's put this sucker on the AppStore and Android marketplace and make some dough:

You have missed Great Britain off the Cornwell dealer map! :)

You might be the closest access any of us have to Cornwell tools or a Cornwell dealer.

Does Cornwell carry a very similar catalog in the UK as it does here? Is it a different line of non hardline tools? Do you have to send warranty tools to the US or somewhere in Europe?

We work from the U.S.A catalogue. Any warranties are sent to Cornwell U.K, who are located in the West Midlands, England. Cornwell is doing very well in the U.K.

We have Snap On and Cornwell. Snap On has always been spotty about showing up unless you owe them money, Haven't seen a Snap On truck in about 4 months and I just bought a new triple bay from him. While it was paid for in cash I need the wheel and lock fixed and he hasn't bothered to come back. The Cornwell guy comes every week and goes out of his way to give great service and his prices are better than Snap On. If it wasn't for the scratch and dent box Snap On had I would have went with Cornwell. Cornwell is big in my area of Mansfield, Ashland, Wooster Ohio.

The Cornwell boxes are great and so are the tools. I almost pulled the trigger on a new 67" Cornwell in black. The drawer pulls are the best i have ever used. I should have but oh well. I like all my Cornwell tools especially the JR72 ratchet.

I know this thread is ancient but I had to get my 2 cents in. I was a tech at a Ford dealer in the late 90s. We had a decent SO dealer, a pushy Mac Dealer and a good down to earth Cornwell dealer.

I bought a few SO items here and there, and I can count ion one hand how many Mac items I bought. The Cornwell dealer however got the lions share of my money in tools.

It wasn't just the great attitude and willingness to warranty other manufacturers stuff (yes, he went that far out of his way). It was also thew quality of tools. Now its true that some of their tools are rebranded from other manufacturers and some aren't rebranded at all ( they just carry them - like Channellock), but the tried and true are their wrenches, ratchets and sockets. He even warrentied several split Craftsman sockets, which is why the next week I ended up buying the whole socket set from him.

And to seal the deal....buying from my Cornwell dealer was always a little cheaper than the Mac or SO dealers.

So my short version opinion - Cornwell equals top quality and great value. Buy Cornwell.
