Never seen a Cornwell vise at all but also never seen this vise and I know Cornwell didn't make it. Anyone know the maker?

I certainly hope none of you guys would think of paying even half of that price for this vise.

Facebook seller asking $550

Asian import sold under quite a few different names.

But but but, it’s a 6-1/2”, gotta be worth more.

I paid $10 for my 125mm version a year or so ago, but it says Diamond Machine works, is supposedly from the 80s, and not a trusted brand like Cornwell.

Sigh

That’s more like it! Even for a vise like that of questionable quality, 10 bucks is a good deal. Not every job needs an 8 inch Wilton machinist vise or a Fireball to “get ‘er done”.

Weird, I've never seen it under any name. Is this relatively new to the market?

Mine is from the 80s according to the seller.. the Sawyer Nu-Typ was the original from eons ago. About every third week someone posts one, asking about its worth. @Beerhippie posts about his in response. Olympia is a common maker from the past, HF has one. So many around, most have no label, because the sticker fell off.

True
But we have to give the Cornwell branded one credit for the fact that their label is a metal plate attached to the vise with metal pins. 👍 What’s the dollar value of that over gluing on a sticker that falls off after a few years of hard use? 🤷‍♂️

The Cornwall vise shown is not a rotator. But still 100% Chinesium. Here are a couple of examples, not an exact match but close enough to prove the point.

I have no doubt it's Taiwan or China. But neither of those are close.

Here is another reason not to buy that rusty Cornwell vise for $550.
This one, also Asian made, is brand new, bears the Wilton badge, and is less money with free shipping.

And there are hundreds of thousands of actual vintage Wiltons in shops and garages and junk stores and online auctions and estate sales for a fraction of the price of that import….

That’s where I got ALL of my vises. Not a single one was purchased new.
But some fellows just can’t bear to buy something “used”.
The older ones from the revered manufacturers in the good ol’ USA will work just fine and if appearance is important, are easily repainted.
