Cornwell warranty

The dealers must be the ones who decide what the warranty is because "customer service" does not seem to know what it is. This person does at least know it is "for a specified period of time", and depends "on the tool in question". I guess a 9/16 wrench may have a different warranty from a 3/4 or even a 3/8 drive and 1/2 drive different warranty depending on the whim of the dealer.
Not sure if I should consider them a waste of time and money or not.

Pasted E-mail in it entirety from [email protected].

Mr. Henson,

Thank you for your recent inquiry. There are many different warranties depending on the tool in question. They apply to the original purchaser of the tool for a specified period of time. I would suggest you contact your nearest Cornwell Tools dealer, based on your zip code that appears to be Mr. Steve Needham, (731)414-3592, for more details. Thank you for your interest in Cornwell Quality Tools.

Regards,

Customer Service

I thought Cornwell had a lifetime warranty on hand tools (wrenches, sockets, ratchets, etc) like the rest of the truck brands ... as long as the tool is not abused ...

It does vary by tool just like everyones.

Hand tools usually lifetime.
Some items that are meant to break down like punches etc less or none.
Other items by what the original manufacturer warranties them for. Ie the Lisle, IR, and other items.

So unless you state what it is they do not have an idea. The hardest part is finding a truck. It is always worth it if you know there is not one in your area of stating that you are no longer in a served area if it is true due to moving or no current supplier in your area.

I just thumbed through my Cornwell catalog and I couldn't find a page explaining their warranty. I even visited their website and couldn't find their warranty either. I have warrantied their hand tools over the years and never had a problem other than finding a dealer but, I am suprised not to be able to find their warranty statement written down. I do know that you you ever get a Cornwell price list, there are some stock numbers in bold. Those are the items actually manufactured by Cornwell (mostly sockets, ratchets, and wrenches) and it is only a small part of the price list.

the price list also contains the warranty info. there is a column listed a CL(classification). it will show an A,B,C, etc, each letter will be for lifetime, 1yr, 90 day, etc. while i don't know what each code stands for i'm pretty sure the A is lifetime. mac and matco use the same method for telling thier dealers warranty duration.

This is why I'll stick with snap on. Its known that power tools dont have a lifetime warranty, and not all blue point tools do, but the standard line of snapon hand tools all do have a lifetime, and there are no games, unless you have a bad dealer who doesnt honor the warranty.

Cornwell is the same, Chad. If you've got a Cornwell truck serving your shop, it's the same as Snap-On...

Wrenches, sockets, etc? No problem.
Air tools, cordless drills? Now it gets a little tricky...

And that Snappy warranty you love so much is technically for the 'original owner' as well. ;)

Yep, it's that dirty little secret that I imagine is employed when some guy buys several k worth of SO tools that need to be warrantied (unless they were abused), only to get shafted. I haven't heard of it yet, but I imagine that's what it's for.

Probably. But if he's smart, he'd turn them in a little at a time, and to various drivers in his area.

It just depends on who you are. I don't care what anyone says, warrantying tools DOES cost those guys money. If you're a regular customer you can get away with murder... I've turned in tools to my Snappy guy that were made before I was born (and flat out told him it was my grandfathers) and got a new one right away.

But if you stroll onto the truck, and ask the guy to warranty armloads of broken, potentially stolen tools, and he's never seen you before? I know I wouldn't love that idea if I was him.

Naa it works equally well against original purchasers not employed on the SO mans route as well as the abusers! It is a one size fits all lube less screw that you learn to recognize after the first bend over session! That would be the best way I could describe it! :lol_hitti

I have never had a problem getting Cornwell tools warranted, but then again I have been dealing with the guy for over 12 years.

As to turning them in one at a time to various drivers in your area, I would have to say good luck with that idea you will be chasin around for years trying to get your tools warrantied that way, you just as well toss them out and go pound sand somewhere!

It seems as though the guys that are true SO believers have a rough time with the concept of getting even one or two tools warrantied correctly let alone armloads as implied above! Every instance of rotten warranty service I ever experienced with SO was with a different rep in a different region and some in different states; seldom with more than one broken tool at a time. Snap-on lost my respect in their warranty service one tool at a time, one dealer at a time over a span of more than 20 years so I do not believe I could get anything but poor warranty service from SO at this point, why should I? I haven't gotten good service in the last 20 years? :headscrat

The cornwell guy I deal with, bought my tool box through him, (from what I've seen) will warranty anything even if abused. (have very few cornwell tools myself) So I'd have to say it's the dude not the company.

I will not buy ******** tools, took me 3 months to get a dead blow hammer warranted that I bought for $85 (yeah I know, an 85 dollar hammer). He tried to say I abused my HAMMER!!! :wtf: I have had similar problems with other dealers so it's not an isolated incident.

Just talking to a few tool companies trying to decide who to buy from.
Just planning to upgrade my tools and checking out the "truck" brands.

Ok I see now. I've dealt with all 4 truck brands and never had a problem getting something warranted. One time I had a new 12mm combo wrench that had its box end broached slightly off center; I complained about it to the S-O dealer; he replaced it, but after calling me a prune. :)

I'd say that if the tool has a clear defect, or has broken when it wasn't supposed to while being correctly used, there's no reason for them not to warranty it for you.

Well said - I'm finding this to be true (most of the time).

I have a lot of cornwell. It's not often that I break anything, but when I do, I track down my nearest dealer as mine is long gone. Never had an issue getting stuff replaced.

A lot of people say it's the dealer/driver that makes or breaks the tool truck experience, moreso than the company. Might be more worthwhile to meet the local, drivers and get a feel for them. Doesn't matter what Cornwell's (or anyone else's) warranty policy is if you can never track down the driver, or he's a ****.

I had a couple wrenches that were peeling chrome, I called them up and told them, I also mentioned that there are no trucks here, they said mail it in. It cost me some money to ship them to the US. They shipped me out brand new wrenches from US to Canada
