I think you might have missed something here. The $13 he paid was the total cost to send the ratchet to Cornwell and for Cornwell to send it back to him. For a ratchet that big, I wouldn't expect him to pay less than $6.50 each way.

BTW, I'm an expert at getting "creative" with the flat rate envelopes (people that have bought from me will probably agree), but I don't think I would even have attempted to fit that monster of a ratchet into an envelope.

Yes, sorry, I thought it was one way.

I'm down with getting creative with the flat rate envelopes. I've put up to 8 pounds in them! It's the best deal going if you can fit the stuff inside and pack it safely.

USPS started to get a little strict though, and have forbade the use of clear plastic reinforcement tape on the package the last time I tried that. Said it had to seal with the flat rate envelopes own adhesive:(

Thanks, I'm very pleased. Yes, I definitely found out how they handle return shipping. Note to anyone that needs to warranty a Cornwell item: Do Not Prepay Shipping!

Thas a really nice looking ratchet; the fit/finish looks amazing! There is nothing quite like getting a brand new ratchet by trading in a old broken one! I traded in a old 1960s Snap-On ratchet that had a hairline crack in the head/body; a local dealer refused to warranty it, so I went to a Snap-On dist. center in the 1990s and they gave me a brand new sealed head as a swap! Needless, to say, I was a happy as a clam! I believe that was my first Snap-On sealed head ratchet I ever owned; it is still in my tool box today! That established my Snap-On tool addiction from then on; after using that ratchet, I had to have more!
I love those long handled ratchets, the leverage is awesome! The design is very clean; looks to be made in USA and is the handle comfortable? That thing creates a irresistible desire for "shiny" things almost like; wanting white gold! Congrats, nice ratchet!

Do Cornwell dealers rebuild their ratchets or just give you a new one? What was wrong with your 1/4" ratchet? Have any pics of the new one?

The lust for "shiny" things must be some sort of primal urge with the male homo sapiens; the tool manufacturers have definitely take notice of this; I guess concepts like "man jewelry" that you can actually use is not far off....

It depends on the dealer. The dealer I go to does not like to rebuild them and gives me new. He says cornwell does not care one way or the other.

I feel like an 11 year old that just saw his first naked woman. :)

I'm sorry, if you want to feel dirty some more maybe sometime i'll show you some pictures of this Brand new Williams B-52EHA (think of it as a much sexier looking F936) I have sitting on my desk doing nothing.

I just sent a 3/4" combo wrench to them via UPS. The box end cracked after one turn of the wrench. Granted, I bought it in a set used on GJ, so I won't be disappointed if they don't warranty it. But it'll be nice if they do. :)

That ratchet is dead ****. I've figured out the easiest warranty for Cornwell is just sending it in. Awhile back I had a 1/4" industrial version that needed new guts. I handed it to one of our techs and told him next time the Cornwell guy came through have him put new guts in it for me.

Long story short.. the guy said he "didn't have a kit on the truck" and it took him a further 3 weeks to come back again. However he did finally fix it. Just slightly annoying to wait 3 weeks to see a dealer. In that time period I could have easily sent it to Cornwell and had it returned and had probably over a week to spare.

In the past I've had good luck sending in stuff to Cornwell. Broke a ujoint and a socket and sent them back. Back to me with new parts in under 5 days.

I will say there is a thread on here however about me attempting to get some replacement parts for my Cornwell box and basically getting told no. That part still has me slightly miffed. Otherwise their basic hand tool line seems to have excellent warranty but the easiest and most efficient method (as others here have said) is simply to mail it back yourself. They always pay return freight so no need to include a ppd return envelope/mailer.

No, the way I read it, they don't pay return shipping.

I didn't contact a dealer because I don't buy from them. I didn't think I would be well received walking on a truck for the first time asking for an expensive replacement ratchet. I doubt I'll ever buy anything new from him. Shipping is under $15 so I figured I'd just do that. Think I should call him instead?

who was your dealer?

Does anyone know what model 3/8" ratchet this is? It needs a new ball. Is there a repair kit available? I don't think I've ever seen a Cornwell truck where I live. I will contact Cornwell CS, but any insight would be appreciated.

I recently had good luck with Cornwell, sent in a 10mm mid legth impact socket that was badly worn out including a shallow chrome 7mm socket in 1/4 drive for the same reason as the 10mm mid length socket.I did send a letter stating they were both worn out.I did get replacements last week Friday.

Dont waste your time with their CSRs.

Mail the ratchet in if you want a new ratchet, if you just want a kit take your old one apart and mail in the guts. Include a piece of paper with the part numbers of what you require, your address, and contact info. The part number for the ratchet is JR30, the rebuild kit is JR30RK1A

Address is

Cornwell Quality Tools
Attn:Repair/Returns
667 Seville Rd.
Wadsworth, OH 44281

and another given in the past is

Cornwell Quality Tools
635 Seville Rd.
Wadsworth, OH 44281
