I have an old Rockwell table saw. The starting capacitor was removed years ago and I need help figuring out how to correctly wire it up. The capacitor has "+" and "-" terminals. The two wires coming off the motor are black, with one has a white tag with "T5" printed on it.

Any guess as to what wire goes to the positive and what wire goes to the negative? What would happen if I incorrectly hook it up? I don't want to burn anything out.

If you hook it up backwards, it'll spin backwards. All the capacitor does is give the AC motor a direction. It'll spin fine in either direction...maybe not cut so well backwards though. :)

Thanks! It's running like new again.
