Hi
I have a 75 vette and want to clean and sand down the body. The paint is chipped in spots and flakes off in your hand. No magor cracks just some small gouges in the body. Any ideas on how to go about it?

Either strip it with razor blades or a chemical stripper. Are you intending to do the whole job (inc paint) yourself, or just save some prep money? A decent paint job costs more than the car is worth, I'm sure you know.

There's plenty on this topic on corvetteforum.com and, oddly enough, on a VW site called thesamba:

VW people work on a limited budget, frequently want to do the whole job themselves for a song, which is probably where you want to research......

I've stripped paint from 2 corvettes. Use chemical stripper and a plasitic bondo spreader to remove the paint after it softens up, wear face mask to protect against splashes. Stripper won't take off the primer you'll need to lightly wet sand with 400 or 600 paper.

I've seen guys sand off the paint or use hard edge scrapers with the stripper, both did damage to the fiberglass. I'd stay away from those IMO.

(I stripped the red '68 Coupe and the white' 66 Coupe)
