I have a 24x40 garage and the drywall is installed and all of the seams are taped with the first coat of mud. Some seams have 2 coats of mud. In any case, I got tired of mudding myself and am not that great at it so decided to get a quote to finish the job. The guy that came up today wants $30/hr per man X 2 men. He estimates 30 hours to finish the job. I have never paid anyone to do this type of work so I don't know if this estimate is high but it seems high to me. The way I see it, he has to apply a coat of mud, sand, repeat one or at most 2 times. Also note that there are zero **** joints on the drywall on the wall as I installed them vertically.

Does 30 hours seem reasonable for this size job? Is $30/hr x 2 men = $60/hr reasonable? He also mentioned that he has a power sander so he thinks sanding would take approx. 45 minutes each time.

Mudding and sanding is easier to me than hanging it. The better mudding job the easier it is to finish. It also depends if you have left anything "proud" before they have to start their job.

PS If the ceiling needs to be done also then it sounds reasonable. Have you seen their work? Any recommendations?

Ceiling does need to be done as well. I have not seen their work yet.
